My wife and I hiked the path toward the creek. We noticed several trees that had been inexplicably snapped off about eight feet above the ground.

Suddenly an otherworldly cry filled the forest around us. It emanated from higher up the Rock Creek canyon, piercing with a strange timbre that was bestial and somehow human...

It's the Auto Technology, Congress

General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are collectively one of the world's primary sources for the research and development of green and fuel-efficient technologies. As Washington decides on aid to the ailing auto industry, top consideration should be given to the significant potential of these Big 3 technologies for stimulating economic and job growth and creating a greener and more fuel-efficient world.

In fact, much of the privately funded green and energy innovation in the United States will stall or likely never come to fruition if the domestic automobile industry fails.

The important global role played by the Big-3 in these fields is clarified by comparing four of their key patent portfolios with those of the other 15 largest global auto manufacturers -- emission control, mainly catalytic converters and related chemistry; fuel cells; hybrid and electric vehicles, mostly motor and battery innovation; and emerging related technologies developed by these same firms including solar, wind and other green inventions.

Stephanie Cooke with the Keizer CERT Team says the people really need the assistance, "At this point, residents have no one to help remove snow from roofs that can sometimes be large amounts as we saw today in Idanha.
Slides and Unstable Snowpack Keep U.S. 20 at Santiam Pass Closed

U.S. 20 will remain closed from milepost 75 to milepost 80 for most of the day because of the snow slides that occurred at about 6:30 AM. In addition, there is a high probability of more slides from slopes above the highway due to the unstable snowpack coupled with blizzard conditions and high wind gusts.

ODOT crews with snow blowers and snow plows are removing the slide debris that came down this morning, but it is snowing so hard that as soon as crews clear a lane, it quickly becomes snowed over again.
