Apr-12-2007 05:03OSU Women's Basketball Signs Viki Wohlers for 2007-08 SeasonSalem-News.com SPORTSAlso, Tiffany Ducker will return to Oregon State to finish her academic and athletic career.
CORVALLIS - Oregon State University head women’s basketball coach LaVonda Wagner announced on Wednesday that Viki Wohlers has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball next season for the Beavers. Wohlers will come to Oregon State after graduating from the Conserve School in Land O’Lakes, Wis. The 6-4 forward led the Northern Lakes Conference in both scoring (26.6 ppg.) and rebounding (16.6 rpg.) during conference competition. She finished the season with 546 points (24.8 ppg.) to rank as the second-leading scorer in the entire state of Wisconsin for all divisions. Wohlers also added 350 rebounds and 106 blocked shots. “Viki runs the floor well, can handle the ball and score in a variety of ways,” said Wagner. “She gives us scoring options inside the paint and is a shot-blocker on the defensive end.” Originally from Wolfenbuettel Germany, Wohlers spent her junior year at Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Fla., where she was a member of the 2006 Division 6A Florida state championship team. “I’m very excited and thrilled to have the opportunity to play for Coach Wagner and the Oregon State Beavers,” said Wohlers. “I loved everything about the campus, the players I met and Coach Wagner and her staff. They treated me extremely well and made my decision to come to OSU very easy.” Her father, Juergen Wohlers, was a captain on the 1972 German Olympic basketball team. Wagner also announced that Tiffany Ducker will return to Oregon State to finish her academic and athletic career. “I’m very excited to get Tiffany back in the fold,” said Wagner. “She’s currently working very hard to prepare for the upcoming season. Tiffany brings Pac-10 experience to our program next year.” Ducker, from Stockton, Calif., started all 31 games for the Beavers during her sophomore season in 2005-06 and led the team with 49 blocked shots and 61 steals. The 6-1 forward did not play during the 2006-07 campaign. The Beavers signed four players in November’s early letter of intent period – Alex Mitchell, Kassandra McCalister, Talisa Rhea and Brittany Eskridge – and announced the addition of transfer guard Brittney Davis who will join Wohlers and Ducker on the court in 2007-08. “I would like to thank my staff for their hard work on the 2007 recruiting class,” said Wagner. “I’m pleased with the student-athletes we signed – they are quality young people and basketball players. They each bring something to the team as we continue our quest to build a successful program.” Oregon State women’s basketball signees: Alex Mitchell (Berkeley, California/Berkeley High School) Kassandra McCalister (Sunnyvale, California/Archbishop Mitty High School) Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau-Douglas High School) Brittany Eskridge (Mill Creek, Washington/Henry M. Jackson High School) Viki Wohlers (Wolfenbuettel Germany/Conserve School (Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin)) Transfer addition to ’07-08 roster: Brittney Davis (Portland, Oregon/Jefferson High School/University of Minnesota) Returning after sitting out 2006-07 season: Tiffany Ducker – junior forward – Stockton, California
