National Average Ticks Up while West Coast Prices Ease

But Oregon's Average is Still Fifth Most Expensive in the Country for Fifth Consecutive Week

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump nozzle The national average for regular unleaded is creeping up, while pump prices on the West Coast continue to slip. The national average gains two cents this week to $2.48, while Oregon's average drops a nickel to $2.73.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says it's the first time since early August we've seen the national average go up.

Falling Pump Prices on West Coast Mean Little for Oregonians

Gas prices are finally easing on the west coast, but California, Washington and Oregon all rank in the top five most expensive states for gas for the second week in a row.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas nozzle Gas prices on the West Coast are finally easing a bit, Oregon AAA says. The state's average for regular unleaded falls a penny this week to $2.88 while the national average loses two cents to $2.54.

One factor impacting gas prices in the west and elsewhere is the annual conversion from summer blended fuels to winter blends, which can slow refinery production and cause some regional price spikes.

Gas Price Hikes Follow Crude Oil Price Increases

Gas prices are up for the third week in a row, as the national average for regular unleaded jumps eight cents this week to $2.64 while Oregon's average shoots up ten cents to $2.79.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas prices Oregon AAA says pump prices have increased every day since July 21, until today, when the national average dropped two-tenths of a cent overnight.

Gas prices are up for the third week in a row, but are still well below last year's record levels. The national average for regular unleaded jumps eight cents this week to $2.64 while Oregon's average shoots up ten cents to $2.79.

Gas, Crude Prices Hit the Brakes: Pump Prices May Have Reached Summer Peak

Crude oil prices hit a six-week low today with crude trading around $63 per barrel after holding steady around $70 the past few weeks.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump Gas prices may have peaked for the summer, according to Oregon AAA. They often reach their summer highs close to the Independence Day holiday, and barring any unforeseen events, pump prices may slide in the coming weeks.

The national average for regular unleaded drops three cents this week to $2.60 while Oregon's average falls two cents to $2.78.

Pump Prices Jump 60 Percent Since Start of 2009

Oregon is 10th most expensive, up from 13th last week.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump Gas prices continue to climb with Oregon's average for regular unleaded gaining nine cents in the past week to $2.78, while the national average adds five cents to $2.67.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "Oregon's average was $1.75 on Jan 1, 2009, and the national average was $1.62 then. Prices have jumped about 60 percent since the start of the year, which is the largest percentage increase we've seen since the '70s."

Memorial Day has come and gone, and pump prices are still edging up. Oregon's average for regular unleaded gains eight cents in the past week to $2.51 while the national average jumps up 11 cents to $2.43. Still, prices are about a buck-fifty a gallon less than a year ago.

Gas Prices Jump in Oregon and Across the U.S.

After five weeks as the fifth most expensive state, Oregon drops to eighth place.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas gauge empty Pump prices show some dramatic gains in the past week with Memorial Day just a couple weeks away. The national average for regular unleaded shot up 17 cents to $2.25, while Oregon's jumped ten cents to $2.36.

"It's the highest gas prices have been since the week of November 10, 2008." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "Prices are up because of increased demand expected over the Memorial Day holiday and also because of signs that the global recession may be easing, which could lead to a rebound in world oil consumption."
