More Oregon Guard Soldiers Will Head for Iraq

A mobilization order is still needed to establish specific time frames and location of duty.

(SALEM, Ore.) - M1A2 Abrams tank The Department of Defense has alerted more than 3,500 Citizen Soldiers of the Army National Guard's 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team for possible mobilization affecting the 3-116 Cavalry in Eastern Oregon.

The Cavalry Brigade is scheduled to be comprised of approximately 800 Oregon Guard members with the remainder being from Idaho and Montana. Supporting the 3-116 is F/145 with detachments throughout Eastern Oregon. The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Idaho, will be commanded by Col. Guy Thomas, and is the largest Idaho National Guard unit.

AMBER Alert Issued for 7-Year Old Idaho Boy

Officers believe Luca may be a passenger in a Chrysler Minivan, California license plate 6GQC981.

(BOISE, Idaho) - 7-year old Luca Principali is missing out of Boise, Idaho Boise Police were called to a report of a child missing from his apartment home Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. in the 400 blk of N. Avenue H, northeast of Reserve Street and Mountain Cover Road.

According to a witness, Luca's teenage sister, the male suspect knocked on the door and she answered. A man unknown to her asked for Luca by name.

Idaho Uses FBI Agents to Detain Oregon Motorcycle Riders

For most people, a ticket for running a red light is not a two hour ordeal.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A group of motorcyclists from Oregon, California, Washington and Australia say police were unnecessarily harsh during a traffic stop in Idaho Wednesday night.

A spokesman for the Gypsy Joker Motorcycle Club, "Tattoo Mike", says the group was riding with between 60 and 70 members in Nampa, Idaho when police decided to pull the group over.

FDIC Friday Takes Another Oregon Bank

The FDIC estimates that the cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF) will be $45 million.

(PRINEVILLE, Ore.) - run on banks Community First Bank in Prineville, Oregon, was closed today by the Oregon Division of Finance & Corporate Securities, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver.

To protect the depositors, the FDIC entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Home Federal Bank, Nampa, Idaho, to assume all of the deposits of Community First Bank, excluding those from brokers.

Saving Private Bergdahl

The one thing we all have to hope is that the Taliban treat him better than our own country has been treating its captives.

(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) - Bowe R. Bergdahl Let me say from the outset that I have the greatest sympathy for 23-year-old Bowe R. Bergdahl, the US soldier in Afghanistan who was captured and is being held by Taliban forces, and for his family, who must be going through a living hell worrying about what is going to happen to him.

But I’m willing to bet you that all of them are wishing, right now, that the US had not decided back in 2001 to begin a campaign of torture and murder against the Taliban fighters that it was capturing in Afghanistan, and against others that it has rounded up in the so-called War on Terror.

Idaho Man Critically Injured After Nearly Crashing Into OSP Patrol Car on Highway 95 South of Jordan Valley

(JORDAN VALLEY, Ore.) - Crash near Jordan Valley, Oregon Police say an Idaho man is in critical condition following a Wednesday night crash south of Jordan Valley where he reportedly almost hit an Oregon State Police trooper's patrol car before traveling off Highway 95 and rolling several times.

The ongoing investigation indicates alcohol is a possible contributing factor. The driver is identified as 41-year old Enrique Casas Valdez of Kuna, Idaho.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Eugene bank robbery suspect arrest in Eugene, Oregon 4-17-09 Oregon State Police troopers arrested a man wanted on a bank robbery warrant out of the Pocatello, Idaho area Friday afternoon south of Cottage Grove, Oregon following what they say was an attempt to elude on Interstate 5.

"The man's attempt to flee ended after police deployed spike strips followed by a tactical vehicle intervention technique to get the car stopped," OSP Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

2009 Minidoka Pilgrimage Honors Japanese-American Internee`s

The 2009 event will take place at the College of Southern Idaho.

(SEATTLE) - Minidoka was an internment camp Sixty-seven years ago, during World War II, almost thirteen thousand people of Japanese ancestry, many of whom were American citizens, were forcibly removed from their homes in Washington, Oregon and Alaska, and sent to a desolate “internment camp” near Twin Falls, Idaho.

To commemorate this event, former internees, their families, friends, and those interested in this historic event will make a pilgrimage from Seattle and Portland to the former Minidoka Internment Camp from June 26-28, 2009.
