California Edges Closer to Legalizing and Taxing Marijuana (VIDEO)

This proposal would regulate marijuana like alcohol. People who are over 21 years old would be allowed to grow, buy, sell and possess cannabis.
(SAN FRANCISCO) -
California appears to be strongly courting the notion of legal marijuana. Advocates say it is about time, and that list includes State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano.
He introduced a bill in February 2009, the "Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act" to the California legislature. If passed, California Assembly Bill 390 would legalize cannabis in the state.

A story about movie lobby cards and the joy of collecting them, particularly in Mexico City - where they are, as a rule, cheap as chips.

Mention the name "Sean Flynn" to any savvy tween and the recognition is instant: "He stars in Zoey 101." Indeed, the teenage actor, grandson of Australian-born screen legend Errol Flynn, is more than recognizable to legions of young Nickelodeon viewers.
However history buffs, especially those cognizant with the Vietnam War, might associate the name with Errol's son, an enigmatic combat photographer who vanished in Cambodia in 1970 along with fellow journalist Dana Stone - presumably captured by communist guerillas. He was 28 at the time. Flynn was believed to have died a year later; he was declared legally dead in 1984.

The new anti-drug initiative for the Southwestern border announced today by the Obama administration is doomed to failure because it simply dresses up failed policies in new clothing, the Marijuana Policy Project charged today.
"The new plan simply calls for rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic," said MPP director of government relations Aaron Houston. "The plan ignores the central problem, which is that our policy of marijuana prohibition has handed the Mexican cartels a massive market that keeps them rolling in cash, not just in Mexico, but according to the Department of Justice, in 230 American cities."

A Baptist minister from the Phoenix, Arizona area, received numerous injuries from police during a dramatic incident April 14th, that was an apparent result of his refusal to submit to what he considered to be, a violation of his Fourth Amendment Right to Privacy.

UO Professors and Students Launch Digital Ethnography Website About the Oaxaca Social Movement in Mexico

The website includes background information about the histories of different social movements in Oaxaca during the past three decades and a video timeline of key events of the Oaxaca social movement from June through October of 2006.

In 2006, a group of women in Oaxaca, Mexico took over television and radio stations in support of striking teachers who were being brutalized by state police forces and paramilitary groups.

Amber Alert Issued For Texas Girl Believed to be in Grave and Immediate Danger

The girl was last seen wearing lime green shorts, a green striped shirt with a white collar and Hello Kitty earrings. She has a small scar on right eyebrow and a birthmark on her upper leg.
(HIDALGO, Tx.) -
The State of Texas issued an Amber Alert early this morning after a child was reportedly abducted while playing in front of her home in Hidalgo on Tuesday evening.
Hidalgo is just south of McAllen on the Mexican border.

Officials Confirm No Swine Flu Cases in Oregon
