Sheriff`s Deputies Arrest 37 DUII Drivers over Labor Day Weekend

Sheriff's offices in this report include Washington County, Clackamas County, Multnomah County and Yamhill County.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Handcuffs As a result of a consolidated effort by the Regional Sheriff's Offices from Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill counties, 37 DUII drivers were arrested and taken off of the region's roadways during the Labor Day weekend.

Deputies from the four Sheriff's Offices in the region worked extra shifts from Friday, September 4th to Monday September 7th, in an attempt to make the roads safer for holiday travelers.

Officials Hope to Identify Woman`s Body Found in River (PHOTOS)

MCSO requests help in identifying persons remains discovered in the Willamette River

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Items located with the remains of a woman whose body was discovered May 31st in the Willamette River. Investigators in Multnomah County say that on May 31st 2009, the remains of an unidentified female were discovered in the Willamette River. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office detectives say they are working with the State Medical Examiner's Office in attempting to identify this person.

They also hope that somebody might recognize that items that were recovered on the woman's body. They hope to establish leads that will help in identifying this person.

Sheriff Goes Back to the Beginning in Basic Police School

The agency that trains police in Oregon can grant a waiver if the applicant "has current knowledge and skills…" , but veteran cop Bob Skipper was sent back to square one.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Sheriff Sheriff at the range Multnomah Sheriff Bob Skipper is preparing to go back to the four-month Basic Police Recruit Academy, beginning June 22nd 2009.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand, Public Information Officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says that in preparation, Sheriff Skipper has been increasing his physical fitness routines, going through firearms qualifications and cutting down on fast food.

Portland Man Drowns in Spite of Rescue Effort

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office wants to remind the public that this time of the year, the waters in the rivers are cold, high and fast moving.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Drowning investigation Investigators say a 21-year old Portland man drowned Sunday night after being swept away by fast moving currents, while swimming in the Sandy River.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says Kirk Alexander Dunn was swimming with friends at the Sandy River near the Troutdale Bridge when he was caught by in swift current.

Deputy Attacked and Assaulted Because No One Would Accept Inmate`s Collect Call

The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. She has been released from the hospital.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - 40-year old Larry Clifford Lande A corrections deputy at the Multnomah County Jail was reportedly attacked by an inmate at approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Deputy Dawn Hathaway was assaulted by 40-year old Larry Clifford Lande, a spokesman said. Lande approached the Deputy work station and complained about not being able to have someone accept a collect call.

Oregon AG Pleased by Decision to Uphold Conviction of Sizemore

The Court of Appeals affirmed a trial court determination that Sizemore “willfully violated an injunction that the court previously entered in the underlying case.”

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bill Sizemore A court ruling against Oregon's biggest tax foe, Bill Sizemore, will be upheld. Attorney General John Kroger applauds the news.

“We are pleased that the Court of Appeals upheld the finding that Sizemore was in contempt,” Kroger said. “We’re deeply committed to holding people accountable when they break the law.”

Hiker Falls to Her Death at Eagle Creek Trail

It is the second hiking-related death at Eagle Creek in the last three weeks.

(CASCADE LOCKS, Ore.) - Eagle Creek, Oregon trail Deputies say a 23-year old Portland woman died Monday afternoon after falling from a popular hiking trail west of Cascade Locks.

Deputy Matt English with the Hood River County Sheriff's Office, says their 911 center received a call at 6:09 p.m. from a man who had accompanied the woman on the hike. He reported that she had died after falling off of a cliff.

Cold Case Homicide Team in Multnomah County Has Big Plans

MCSO Cold Case Homicide Unit's work‏

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Last year Multnomah County swore in 8 retired MCSO investigators to open and review 35 unsolved ‘cold' homicide or suspicious death cases more than two years old.

All the cases were initially investigated by the sheriff's office but for myriad reasons did not result in the arrest of suspects.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Willamette River in Portland, Oregon On Feb. 13, 2009 The Oregonian published a wake-up call article on the very dangerous industrial pollutants in the river.

Their emphasis was on the polychlorinated Biphenyls which was just one of some highly toxic substances. They also referred, in passing, that lower downstream was a severely toxic section of river. That should have been included in the story!
