Report Clearing Marine Corps Connection to Camp Lejeune Sickness was Purchased

It makes some of us wonder who the people are at the head of this agency and what could make their hearts become so black and cold toward their fellow Marines.

(CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.) - marines logo The Marine Corps is in hot water. A newspaper article has exposed the fact that the Marines entered into a contract with the National Academy of Science, before paying $600,000 for a report that concludes that the Corps is not responsible for the toxic water Marines drank at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 years.

The Marines had contracted the scientists from The National Research Council to be their consultants on Camp Lejeune before the same group published their Camp Lejeune report in June of this year, which was highly favorable for the Marine Corps.

A former Camp Lejeune Marine in Wisconsin has been awarded a 30% disability over illnesses contracted from the base's toxic water.

Senate Hears Testimony on DoD Toxic Soup

A growing awareness of serious toxic waste on military bases is getting national attention.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - El Toro Marine base summer 2009 The Defense Department is the biggest owner of EPA Superfund sites. Over 130 military bases are on the National Priority List.

In his opening statement today, Senator Daniel Akaka, Chairman, Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, noted the requirement for the VA to provide health care and compensation to veterans who were harmed by exposures while in the military.

One Marine's struggle to expose the toxicity of the Camp Lejeune Marine base.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Jim Fontella CNN and other media groups published a story yesterday about a Camp Lejeune Marine who survived breast cancer. Jim Fontella of Michigan is one of 22 male breast cancer survivors from Lejeune, says fellow survivor Mike Partain , who was raised in a Marine Corps family.

As we have reported many times in the past, the Camp Lejeune Marine base in North Carolina is heavily contaminated with PCE (tetrachloroethylene) and TCE (trichloroethylene) as well as other cancer causing agents.

Lawsuit Filed Over Cancer-Causing Contamination at Camp Lejeune

The lawsuit alleges that the government knowingly exposed hundreds of thousands of Marines, sailors, their family members, and civilian employees to highly contaminated drinking water on the base at Camp Lejeune.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Marine logo Former Marine wife Laura Jones' husband was stationed at Camp Lejeune; her legal team says the federal government knew that hundreds of thousands of Marines drank contaminated drinking water.

45-year-old Laura Jones who lives in Iowa, now has lymphoma.

FDA Takes Over Tobacco in the U.S.

The FDA says they will seek input from the public as they begin working to implement the Act.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Cigarettes On June 22, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, granting authority to the FDA to regulate tobacco products in the U.S.

In a news release, they state, "FDA looks forward to taking on this challenge and in doing so will partner with public health leaders at our sister agencies, at the state level, and in localities all around the country."

The FDA says the agency will perform its duties by using the best available science to guide the development and implementation of effective public health strategies to reduce the burden of illness and death caused by tobacco products.

The NRC statement reversed years of progress for sick Marines and people like Jerry Ensminger, a retired Marine Master Sergeant who lost his little girl to cancer at Camp Lejeune. He and other advocates worked tirelessly to establish that Marines died of cancer from trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) that originated from the base's contaminated water supplies.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) Today, the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support held a hearing on military construction and environmental initiatives.

U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-North Carolina), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee, raised concerns about the recent National Academy of Sciences (NAS) report on water contamination at Camp Lejeune and pressed the Navy for answers.

“It’s clear that the water at Camp Lejeune was contaminated by a number of hazardous chemicals at unsafe levels,” Senator Burr said.
