OLCC Cancels Liquor Licenses of Outlaws Bar and Grill and Brook Nook Deli

Oregon's Liquor Control Commission lowers the boom on several businesses.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bar is closed At its monthly meeting Friday, the commissioners of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission voted to cancel the liquor licenses of Outlaws Bar and Grill in Portland and Brook Nook Deli in Brooks, Oregon.

The OLCC says the cancellation of Outlaws Bar and Grill, 722 E. Burnside, came as the result of a history of persistent problems involving eleven serious incidents from September 18th 2006 through August 31st 2007.

Daylight Saving Time Means Oregon Bars Get an Extra Hour

Later in the year the bars and taverns will have to close early one night, giving the hour back.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon bar Clocks are turned back one hour at 2:00 AM Sunday as Daylight Saving Time ends. Ken Palke with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission says it will be a longer night than usual at Oregon's drinking establishments.

"So for the imbibing crowd, that could mean that nightclubs, bars, taverns and other licensed premises may remain open an extra hour."

OLCC Mulls Winegrowers’ Bid to Overhaul 30-year-old Industry Rules

When the wine rules were initially adopted, there were fewer than three dozen wineries, mostly in the Willamette Valley; now there are 500 wineries throughout Oregon.

(SALEM) - Wine from Eola Hills Vineyard Wine growers have petitioned the Oregon Liquor Control Commission to update the agency’s 30-year-old administrative rules on wine labeling to “reflect the needs of today’s industry.”

The Oregon Winegrower’s Association (OWA) said its petition addresses issues that place some producers at a “disadvantage in the marketplace.” One proposal is to create allowances for up to a 25 percent grape blend in 39 warm-climate wines, while maintaining the 90 percent single-grape purity requirement for the majority of Oregon wines.

OLCC’s Responsible Vendors Do Well in Statewide ID Checking Study

During the study, young looking 21-year-olds attempted to buy a six pack of beer without an ID card.

(SALEM) - Alcohol sellers in the Oregon Liquor Control Commission’s Responsible Vendor Program (RVP) are doing a good job of checking the ID’s of younger-looking buyers, according to a statewide research study.

But, non-RVP grocery and convenience store clerks didn’t fare as well during the test – failing to ask a young-looking alcohol customer for ID about 40 percent of the time. Clerks at liquor and drug stores did better, however, checking the ID of the young buyers about 86 percent of the time.

Taskforce Highlights Underage Drinking Problem in Marion County

Nineteen of the forty-seven businesses tested in the compliance check sold alcohol to a minor.

(SALEM) - minor sting photo While most teens say no to alcohol and illicit drugs, the pressure is on during times when there is cause for celebration (such as spring break, prom and graduation).

For this reason, CERV (Committed Enforcement and Responsible Vendors) taskforce members organized a multi-jurisdictional operation throughout Marion County during Spring Break the week of March 23rd -30th, 2007.

This two-part operation included the utilization of underage drinking party dispersal techniques and the enforcement of minor alcohol sales through compliance checks.

Controversial South Salem Strip Club to Open Its Doors Thursday

Opponents and city officials say they will keep a watchful eye over the new club.

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com A controversial south Salem strip club, that will feature nude dancing, will open its doors on Thursday at 11:00 AM.

Frank Boussad, who owns Big Shots Bar & Broiler in North Salem, is opening Presley's Playhouse Cabaret in the former Mike's steakhouse, 3803 Commercial St. SE.

Opponents and the Salem City Council fought hard last summer and fall to try and keep the OLCC from granting the business a liquor license.

OLCC Urges Parents, Businesses to Join in Youth Drinking Prevention

In Oregon, there were 1,219 minors arrested in 2005 for DUII and another 7,205 were cited for minor in possession of alcohol.

(SALEM) - Underage drinking Spring break generally signals the start of the season for school celebrations, proms, graduations, and off-campus parties around Oregon.

It also means more underage drinking and the serious problems associated with it, such as driving while intoxicated, says the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

“Oregon has been making strides in reducing alcohol-related traffic deaths in recent years, and we want that trend to continue,” said Steve Pharo, OLCC executive director. “That’s why we urge our liquor licensees and parents to be extra vigilant this time of year when it comes to teens and alcohol.”

36 Marion, Polk, Yamhill Liquor Licensees Pass OLCC Compliance Testing

The testing is part of the OLCC’s effort to curtail underage drinking in Oregon.

(SALEM) - alcoholic drink Thirty-six of 42 licensed businesses tested in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties refused to sell alcohol to a minor during a recent compliance operation conducted by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

However, four Salem area licensed businesses sold alcohol to the minor decoy.

Servers and bartenders or licensees whose employees provide alcohol to the minor or fail to verify their age, are subject to OLCC administrative sanctions including fines or license suspensions.

69 Percent of Eugene Businesses Fail Recent OLCC Minor Sales Checks

An OLCC inspector and minor volunteer did the compliance testing as part of the OLCC’s priority effort to curtail underage drinking, which is a serious problem in Oregon.

(EUGENE) - liquor store shelves Nine of 13 licensed businesses tested in Eugene sold alcohol to a minor during a recent compliance operation conducted by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

“This is an alarming 69 percent sales rate, which is nearly triple the average statewide rate of 25 percent,” said Inspector Mark Jaehnig, of the OLCC’s Eugene office.

Store clerks who sell are cited into court and face at least a $350 fine.

Salem, Keizer, Woodburn Businesses Agree to Liquor Violation Settlements

If the business fail to pay the fines, each face stiff liquor license suspensions.

(SALEM) - Salem, Keizer, Woodburn and Adair Village businesses have agreed to pay fines to the Oregon Oregon Liquor Control Commission for liquor law violations.

Under a stipulated settlement with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, the licensee for Rack N’ Cue 1970 Lancaster Dr. NE #125, agreed to pay a $3,465 civil penalty by Jan. 26th or begin serving a 21-day license suspension Jan. 31st for a liquor law violation.

The OLCC says the licensee failed to maintain liquor liability insurance or a minimum $300,000 corporate surety bond, in accordance with OAR 845-005-0400(1).

The licensee is Rack N’ Cue, LLC; Liem T. Lam, member.
