"Defiantly a wave out of your imagination" - Shawn 'Barney' Barron / VolcomTeam Rider
(CAMARILLO, Calif.) -
With Fall barely out the gate, the second major North West Pacific swell marched towards the Oregon coastline promising endless amounts of giant surf for a few solid days.
With the predicted buoy reading of 17' @ 17 seconds, Mother Nature delivered once again a massive blow with some 35'-40'+ wave face heights at a select outer reef just south of the now famous Nelscott Reef. The locals call it 'South Reef' and rarely does it break as it did on October 22, 2009!

Video Captures the Excitement of Salem Roller Derby
Dawn Hatchard Salem-News.com
The thrills and spills were not in short order, no way!
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The debut of the Cherry City Roller Derby in Salem over the weekend was a massive success, so much so that people were turned away at the door of the Salem Pavilion.
Crowd estimates were in the neighborhood of 3000 and that seems like a conservative estimate. The hardcore fast-paced knock 'em out of your way approach that this sport represents, was matched by the buzz and excitement of eager fans that waited a long time to see this women's sport reemerge.

NFL Snubs Notion of Limbaugh Ownership
Opinion by Tim King Salem-News.com
"The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it" - Rush Limbaugh
(SALEM, Ore.) -
With quotes like the one above, it isn't hard to imagine why the NFL is down in the mouth over Rush Limbaugh's idea to purchase the St. Louis Rams.
The idea hit the wall Tuesday when Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay vowed to vote against Limbaugh. Commissioner Roger Goodell echoed similar thoughts, noting that the conservative commentator's "divisive" comments are not something any NFL insiders would tolerate.

(SALEM, Ore.) -
There was a certain kind of feeling present Saturday at the State Fairground Pavilion that's a little hard to describe.
Electricity was in the air and the place had a magical sense as Salem residents lined up for a night of roller skates and fishnet stockings, to watch ladies with names like "Areola 51" and "Like a Virgin" compete in a sport that used to be very popular in Oregon.

Who`s Got Your Back?
Doug Dickerson Salem-News.com
The simple truth is – you can go farther than you ever imagined when someone has your back.
(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -
It’s an amazing story that perhaps you have heard. I read it again recently in a story by Rick Reilly for Sports Illustrated. The Father-son duo of Rick and Dick Hoyt are an amazing team.
Together they have competed in marathons and triathlons. They have competed together and finished hundreds of races together. Each time they cross the finish line they do so at the same time- every time.

Football: A Blood Sport No More Dangerous Than Driving
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com
The big story recently is/was about the high school boy who dropped dead in practice and his coach was sued for involuntary manslaughter.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
Believe it or not I am not targeting football. Basketball, hockey, soccer and water polo are all blood sports and wrestling, pro and non-pro, fits in there someplace. The name of the game in all of these “sports” is to disable your opponent whether you are on defense or attack.
Why do you think football players wear those cocoons of steel and durable plastic? Actually it was President Teddy Roosevelt who called coaches together in 1905 when 18 college players were killed. Their head gear and pads were a bad joke. I know, I used some of that stuff in the 1930’s.
