Just weeks ago in the West African country of Guinea, countless women were brutally raped in a public stadium when soldiers stormed a peaceful protest. The world reacted with outrage, but Guinea is just the tip of the iceberg.
The group change.org has issued an Action Alert for citizens to share their important voices in this regard: "Tell the UN that violence against women must end now by visiting this link to add your name to list"

Selling Israeli Policy Military Tours Offered to Western Tourists

The tours promoting Israeli military policy does not include a single Palestinian voice on the conflict.
(NEW ORLEANS PNN) -
For eight days at the end of October, Western tourists can participate in a tour labeled the “Ultimate Mission” hosted by the Israeli right-wing group Shurat HaDin (Israel Law Center).
Part of the plan to generate Western support for the Israelis includes extensive lectures and tours on what some perceive as the most pertinent current issues: the Wall, checkpoints, and military court.

A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today applauded statements by members of the U.S. House of Representatives rejecting claims made yesterday by several of their GOP colleagues that Muslim congressional interns are “spies.”
The Council on American-Islamic relations (CAIR) also said that one of its directors has received a death threat after the Wednesday launch of a “Muslim-bashing” book by several right-wing members of Congress.

Deadly Indonesian Earthquakes Leave 75 Dead and Thousands Trapped

Devastating back-to-back earthquakes have rocked the Indonesian island of Sumatra today, killing at least 75 people and leaving thousands trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings, the United Nations humanitarian wing has reported.
A powerful 7.9-magnitude tremor, originating from the same fault-line that produced the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, struck near the city of Padang at 5:16 pm local time, and was followed by a quake measuring 6.2 about 22 minutes later.

The Security Council today stressed the need to ensure the security of the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, where ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya has taken shelter since his return to the country earlier this week.
This came after Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Celso Amorim, said that he was gravely concerned that the same people who had perpetrated the coup d’état in Honduras in June might threaten the Embassy’s inviolability to forcefully arrest Mr. Zelaya.

The coup d’état has received widespread condemnation from both within and outside the UN.
(GENEVA) -
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today voiced his sadness at the deaths that have occurred in Honduras following the ouster of President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales, and called on the Organization of American States (OAS) to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
Mr. Zelaya was ousted by the military on 28 June, hours before a referendum was slated to be held on changing the Honduran constitution.
