(DUNEE, Ore.) - An 89-year old man was struck by a motor vehicle in the 1300 block of East Fulton Street, near Friendsview Manor, a local retirement community. It happened shortly after 7:00 PM Monday according to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.
The injured pedestrian, 89-year old Elvett H. Brown, is a resident of Friendsview Manor. He was walking northbound across Fulton, near his home, and was a few steps away from the curb when he was struck by an eastbound white 1998 Ford Windstar van, driven by 48-year old David Andrew Ticknor of Newberg.
Mr. Brown was flown from the crash scene to the Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital by LifeFlight air ambulance. His condition is not known but reportedly suffered several injuries. Assisting were paramedics and firefighters from the Newberg Fire Department.
Mr. Ticknor was not injured. He was alone in his car. Police say Mr. Brown was not in a marked crosswalk and reportedly wearing darker colored clothing when he was struck.
Although no speed is available, the initial investigation shows speed is not a factor in the crash. Impairment is not a factor for either men.
Fulton Street, a posted 25 mph zone, is a two-way, two-lane collector street between N. Villa and N. Meridian streets, two primary residential streets in the neighborhood. The public street divides portions of the George Fox University athletic fields and Friendsview Manor properties.
The investigation is continuing.
