Study Analyzes Potential for Private Insurance Companies to Offer Flood Insurance

Prices charged by private insurers could be lower than current prices charged by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

(PHILADELPHIA) - The Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania released a study today that analyzes the role private insurance companies could play in offering residential flood insurance.

The year 2011 was the most costly year for natural disasters worldwide ($350 billion); in the U.S. alone, there were nearly 100 Presidential disaster declarations, two-thirds of which were from hurricanes and floods.

A fisherman is shot by the Israeli Navy without cause off the coast of occupied Gaza City.

(GAZA) - A 45-year old fisherman was rushed to the hospital for treatment after medical sources say he was shot in the leg today. His condition is stable now.

The Israeli occupation forces have recently increased prosecution against fishermen in the Sea of Gaza Strip. They have developed a new large buoy system only 3 miles from the shore in order to oversee the occupied people of Gaza.

Several Victims Transported From Salem Apartment Fire

At least three people have been transported from the scene of a fire in NE Salem.

(SALEM) - Salem fire crews are on the scene of an apartment fire in NE Salem that involves multiple victims. The blaze broke out sometime after midnight.
