UO Ducks Preparing For Different Sort of Challenge at WSU

After three weeks of defending pro-style offenses, the No. 2 Ducks (3-0) will face Washington State's wide-open passing attack on Saturday

(EUGENE, Ore.) - UO Ducks After three weeks of defending pro-style offenses, during No. 2 Oregon’s perfect run through nonconference play to start this season, the pendulum is about to swing dramatically in the other direction.

The Ducks (3-0) go on the road to open Pac-12 Conference play on Saturday when they play at Washington State (7:30 p.m., ESPN). The Cougars (1-2) lead the nation with 517 passing yards per game, more than 30 more than second-place Western Kentucky, and are coming off a win over Portland State in which they threw for a Pac-12 record 630 yards.

No. 3 Oregon roared away in the second half for a huge nonconference victory.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - UO Duck Football 2014 The first nonconference matchup of top-10 teams in Autzen Stadium history lived up to every bit of the hype, as No. 3 Oregon jumped out to a lead, withstood a furious comeback by No. 7 Michigan State and recovered to win 46-27.

The Spartans all but shut down Oregon's vaunted run game, survived a couple big plays by the Ducks early on and then got the momentum going squarely in their favor.

NASCAR: Jeff Gordon Wins at Michigan

Kevin Harvick placed second, 1.413 seconds behind Gordon.

(BROOKLYN, Mich. ) - Jeff Gordon With a lighting fast new track record at Michigan International Speedway, Jeff Gordon earned his second consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coors Light pole of the season Friday afternoon after turning a lap of 34.857 seconds at 206.558 miles per hour, ahead of Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 (1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN).

Gordon crushed fellow Chevrolet driver Kevin Harvick's track record by three tenths of a second at the two-mile oval set just two months ago. Gordon's qualifying lap was the seventh-fastest pole-winning speed in Sprint Cup history.

Oregon Reimbursing Football Players Insurance Premiums

Money provided to the athletic department’s student assistance fund by the NCAA must be used to cover those costs.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football The UO athletic department is reimbursing four families of football players for out-of-pocket expenses related to the purchase of insurance policies for loss of future earnings in the event of an injury, school officials said.

The families of quarterback Marcus Mariota, center Hroniss Grasu, cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and defensive end Arik Armstead purchased policies this past offseason under the NCAA’s “exceptional student-athlete disability insurance” rule.

The watch list for the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, includes 32 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2014 season.
