Heisman Trophy Goes to UO Quarterback Marcus Mariota

Mariota is the first ever Heisman Winner from the University of Oregon

(GoDucks.com / NEW YORK) - Marcus Mariota The most celebrated individual season in Oregon football history received an historic exclamation point Saturday, as junior quarterback Marcus Mariota was awarded the Heisman Trophy for the 2014 college football season.

Mariota became the first Heisman winner in UO history, and the first from the Pacific Northwest since Terry Baker of Oregon State in 1962.

Oregon vs Oregon: the 118th Civil War is Today

Kickoff is set for 5:14 p.m. PT between the University of Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers at Reeser Stadium, with a national telecast on ABC.

The Ducks (3-0) go on the road to open Pac-12 Conference play on Saturday when they play at Washington State (7:30 p.m., ESPN). The Cougars (1-2) lead the nation with 517 passing yards per game, more than 30 more than second-place Western Kentucky, and are coming off a win over Portland State in which they threw for a Pac-12 record 630 yards.

Oregon Reimbursing Football Players Insurance Premiums

Money provided to the athletic department’s student assistance fund by the NCAA must be used to cover those costs.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football The UO athletic department is reimbursing four families of football players for out-of-pocket expenses related to the purchase of insurance policies for loss of future earnings in the event of an injury, school officials said.

The families of quarterback Marcus Mariota, center Hroniss Grasu, cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and defensive end Arik Armstead purchased policies this past offseason under the NCAA’s “exceptional student-athlete disability insurance” rule.
