AFL-CIO Calls on Members to Defend Occupy Wall Street

Major Union Calls on NY Area Members to Spend Night in Solidarity with OWS Encampment Against Bloomberg’s Planned Attack.

(NEW YORK CITY) - AFL CIO logo In a statement emailed at approximately 8pm EST, the AFL-CIO called on its NY area members to travel to the Occupy Wall Street encampment in lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Square and stand on guard all night against a planned eviction.

Police in New York plan to attack the popular movement to be carried out on the orders of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

(LONDON) - Defense Secretary Liam Fox Liam Fox faced fresh accusations of running a shadow foreign policy after it emerged he was involved in setting up a private investment firm to operate in Sri Lanka in apparent contravention of UK government policy, with his controversial friend Adam Werritty as its key contact.

The defence secretary was intimately involved in negotiations with the Sri Lankan regime as recently as last summer, according to Lord Bell, his friend of 30 years, agreeing a deal that allows the Sri Lankan Development Trust to operate in the country in the same period in which he now says he withdrew his involvement.

Report: Turkish Prosecutor Seeks Interpol Notice for Flotilla Attackers

Eight Turks and a Turkish-American were killed aboard the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship that was part of an international humanitarian aid flotilla which tried to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza in May of last year.

(ISTANBUL) - Israeli war crime suspects İstanbul Public Prosecutor Mehmet Akif Ekinci, the prosecutor conducting the investigation into the deadly flotilla attack, had reportedly written to the Turkish Justice Ministry, requesting Interpol red notices for the 174 Israeli soldiers and commanders.

The report also said the İstanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office had earlier written to Israeli authorities requesting the full names and residential addresses of the military and government officials who gave the orders to attack the flotilla, in addition to information about those who carried out the orders.
