Burhanuddin Rabbani Assassinated - Was He Afghanistan`s Last Hope for Peace?

Burhanuddin Rabbani served as Afghanistan's President from 1992 to 1996, and for a second term in 2001.

(KABUL ) - President Burhanuddin Rabbani Afghanistan has been rocked by the assassination of former President Burhanuddin Rabbani (Persian: برهان الدين رباني Burhânuddîn Rabbânî), who held the reigns of this country until Kabul was taken by the Taliban in 1996. Wikipedia explains that Rabbani was killed in a suicide bombing at his home in Kabul on 22 September 2011.

2 Taliban members approached him to offer a hug and detonated their explosives. At least one of them hid the explosives within his turban. The suicide bomber claimed to be a Taliban commander and said he wanted to "discuss peace" with Rabbani.

Our Web Designer Matt Lintz, says a series of server tests were conducted over a four-hour period Saturday as the site remained offline and while the problem can't be pinpointed, adjustments were made and Salem-News is now expected to remain stable.

(ALEXANDRIA, Egypt) - Ground Zero Mosque The Islamic Community Center located blocks away from where the Twin Towers once stood, and commonly referred to as the ground zero mosque, has officially opened, celebrating the day with an art exhibit that features children representing 171 ethnicities.

The ‘NYChildren Photography Exhibition’ brought visitors instead of protesters to the opening at the controversial Park51 Community Center location.

Palestinians on statehood: 'We want action, not votes at the UN'.

(OAKLAND, Calif.) - Gaza Art exhibit An exhibit of Palestinian children’s paintings (“A child’s view from Gaza”) was scheduled to open tomorrow (Sept. 24) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Museum of Children’s Art in Oakland, CA.

The paintings were done after the Israeli military assault on Gaza in 2008/2009 which killed 1400 Palestinians including 300 children. So they depicted some of what the children had seen.

Recognizing a state requires the existence of an equal state, politically and legally on the same level, to make the recognition.

(ALEXANDRIA, Egypt) - Mahmoud Abbas submitting the application of the state of Palestine for admission to membership in the United Nations Author’s note: Recognizing Israel has been an Israeli precondition for sitting around one table with the Palestinians to start the so-called peace talks.

In almost all the screwed up bilateral negotiations over the past two decades, the Israeli side would always issue statements that justify and stick the failure of negotiations on the other side’s unwillingness to recognize the state of Israel.
