(OKINAWA) - On August 19th, 2011, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement in response to recent media coverage about the US military’s use and storage of defoliants (including Agent Orange) on Okinawa during the Vietnam War.

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) - The United States has selected September 21, 2011, the United Nations International Day of Peace, for its next launch of a Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. The launch will take place at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a target in the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

An annual International Day of Peace was declared by the United Nations General Assembly as a day for "commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples."

Army Releases August Suicide Data

Three cases have been confirmed as suicide and eight cases remain under investigation.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The Army released suicide data today for the month of August. Among active-duty soldiers, there were 19 potential suicides: three have been confirmed as suicides and 16 remain under investigation. For July 2011, the Army reported 22 potential suicides among active-duty soldiers.

Since the release of that report, five cases have been confirmed as suicide, and 17 cases remain under investigation.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - The fifth woman in two years to claim she was raped by a manager at a factory in Jordan making clothing for U.S. companies has come forward to call on Hanes, Macy’s, Target, Sears, Walmart, and Khol’s, all of whom make clothes at the factory, to take action.

The Bangladeshi national, called “Anowara” to protect her identity, gave video testimony (transcript here) of her rape by a manger at the Classic Factory while sewing clothes for Hanes. Anowara joins four other women who say they were raped at the factory.
