Three Men Face Imminent Execution in India

Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases as the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

(CHENNAI, India) - Two Sri Lankans and an Indian national convicted for the assassination of India’s former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, are facing imminent execution in Vellore prison in Tamil Nadu, India.

This follows the rejection of their mercy petitions by the President of India. If carried out, these would be the first executions in India since 2004.

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - The eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld Judge Roger Vinson’s ruling that the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” is unconstitutional in the case brought by Florida and 25 other states, two private citizens, and the National Federation of Independent Business.

Specifically, it upheld the ruling that the individual mandate is unconstitutional, but did not rule that the bill as a whole is unconstitutional, as did Judge Vinson.
