When I think of the late John Paul II, I remember his tepid response to child abuse by priests, showing more concern with the effect the scandal was having on the Church rather than the effect on the children. Sure priests betrayed their vows, but he showed little concern about betrayals of the trust that a child has for their priest.

My daughter, Jill died nine years ago on April 29. I was fortunate to be Jill's mommy (she never called me mom) for 29 years on earth.

I continue to be her mommy while she is in heaven and loving her and keeping her memory alive -- until we are reunited.
