US Senate: The Grinch that Stole Christmas 2010

Angela M. Kelly of the Washington-D.C-based Center for American Progress Action Fund termed the Senate vote a “Grinch-like rejection.”

(LAS CRUCES, N.M.) - Dream Act By a margin of five votes, the DREAM Act failed today to achieve the 60 votes necessary to ensure its passage in the US Senate. First introduced in 2001, the Dream Act would have provided a pathway to legalization for hundreds of thousands of undocumented young people who enroll in college or join the US military.

The vote fell on December 18, which is celebrated around the world as International Migrants Day.

"Tourism is one of the few areas of strong Israeli-Palestinian coordination. So far this year, 1.4 million tourists have visited the traditional birthplace of Jesus and 90,000 are expected during the Christmas season, a significant increase over last year, according to Israeli government figures. The numbers of visitors have been rising steadily in recent years.

Israeli Air Strike Kills at Least 5 in Gaza

Israel has been launching incursions into the blockaded territory on a regular basis for years.

(GAZA STRIP PRESS TV) - The body of one of the five victims of the December 18 attack was taken to a morgue. At least five people have been killed by an Israeli airstrike on a town in the central Gaza Strip, according to a Press TV correspondent in Gaza.

Nine-year-old Ly is pictured in a portrait taken by Ed Kashi, with VII Photos, who lives in New Jersey. Kashi photographed Ly and other children helped by Children of Vietnam in July 2010.

(LAS CRUCES, N.M.) - Marisela Escobedo Ortiz A Ciudad Juarez woman who struggled for more than two years to obtain justice for her murdered daughter is now a murder victim herself.

Marisela Escobedo Ortiz, mother of 16-year old Rubi Marisol Frayre Escobedo, was gunned down December 16 by an assassin in front of the state capital building in Chihuahua City as she protested her daughter’s case.

(AUMSVILLE, Ore.) - Aumsville, Oregon Tornado A Tornado touched down at the southern end of Aumsville, Oregon last Tuesday at approximately 11:40 a.m. cutting a swath of destruction but fortunately sparing the people of this rural Oregon town from serious injury.

Unusual in the Northwest, the Tornado had a Fujita Scale rating of EF2 with estimated wind speeds between 110 and 120 MPH.
