The Borgen Project Unveils 50-State Strategy Before U.N. Millennium Summit

National campaign, based in Seattle will have professionals in all 435 congressional districts lobbying for the world’s poor and the achievement of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals

(SEATTLE) - Clint Borgen On Monday, 142 Heads of State, including President Obama, will meet in New York City for an emergency U.N. Summit. The topic? Cutting global poverty in half by 2015, as outlined in the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

The Borgen Project, a Seattle-based advocacy organization, announced an aggressive, 50-state strategy to make sure every congressional leader is feeling pressure from constituents to achieve the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

Police Shooting Near Oakridge

There is no confirmation on the identity of the subject at this point.

(OAKRIDGE, Ore.) - Police shooting Oregon State Police say tonight, September 18, 2010 at approximately 9:30 p.m. an Oregon State Police trooper was involved in an officer-involved shooting with a male subject.

According to information from OSP's Gregg Hastings, the shooting happened in the area of Fish Hatchery Road and Salmon Creek Road just east of Oakridge. "The trooper was not injured and medical care is being provided to the subject shot by the trooper," Hastings said.

Tualatin Woman Dies in Crash East of Astoria

A Tualatin-area woman died and two other people were injured.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Fatal crash Astoria, Oregon 16 Sept. 2010 Police are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's two vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 202 about three miles east of Astoria.

A 1999 Volkswagen was westbound on Highway 202 near milepost 5 negotiating a curve when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with two adult female occupants.

Defend Irvine`s Adventure Playground Sunday

Citizens in Community Deserve Say in Park’s Future and Use of Public Funds.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Adventure Playground As Orange County begins to implode over news that a great political debacle known as the Great Park will probably never exist, we learn that another park, one that delighted many who are now young adults in this area, is being allowed to not exist, in a usable state that is.

A group called Save Adventure Playground!! is rallying Sunday 09/19/2010 to make a point of this lack of use, and to seek support in turning what has become an eyesore, back into a useful environment for youth.

Crash on Salem Freeway Traps and Injures Two

Two northbound lanes were closed for an hour.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crash in Salem, Oregon on I-5 17 Sept. 2010 Police say two people were injured Friday morning when a van's driver lost control, crossed the center median and rolled into the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 about 1/2 mile north of the Highway 22 overpass in Salem.

It happened at approximately 7:58 a.m.

El Toro Buried Drums of Toxic Chemicals

Information was reported to the Navy, who ignored the need to search for the drums.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - The dirtiest part of the old base is the MWSG-37 area; toxins migrated into this part of El Toro for half a century. El Toro employees buried 55 gallon drums of toxic chemicals to avoid Marine Corps Inspector General inspections and, in the case of half-empty drums, to support the need for ordering full drums of TCE/PCE.

TCE/PCE was used for decades on the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California. These chemicals were used as degreasers for aircraft parts and for various other purposes.
