Adult Prison is the Wrong Place to Put Oregonians Under 18

HB 2251 prohibits incarcerating minors in Department of Corrections facilities

(SALEM, Ore.) - youth incarceration Adult prisons aren’t the place for youth who wind up in trouble with the law, and the Oregon Senate voted to send a bill to stop that harmful practice to Gov. Kate Brown for her signature.

House Bill 2251 – which passed by a 23-7 vote on the Senate floor May 15th – prohibits incarcerating anyone younger than 18 in a Department of Corrections institution under any circumstances.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Detroit Lake Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae and the toxins they produce in Detroit Lake. These toxin concentrations can be harmful to humans and animals.

People should avoid swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing or power boating, in areas where blooms are identified.

Two Motorcyclists Killed and Others Injured in Tragic Crash

(FOSSIL, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Two motorcyclists on their way to a campout were killed and several others seriously injured late Saturday night when a car crossed over and struck several riders.

OSP Troopers, Wheeler County sheriff's deputies and ODOT responded to the crash around 10:40 p.m.

28 Egyptian Christians Killed in Bus Attack on Friday

In April, at least 45 people were killed and more than 100 wounded in two separate suicide bomb attacks

(Minya Province, EGYPT/Alwaght) - Coptic Christians Masked gunmen attacked two buses and a truck carrying Coptic Christians in Egypt on Friday, killing at least than 28 people and wounding dozens more. Egyptian officials say children were among the dead.

The attackers arrived in three pick-up trucks and opened fire on the vehicles carrying the Christians before fleeing from the scene, with Security forces in pursuit. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Search For Missing Swimmer at 3 Pools Ends with Recovery

Tuesday around 4 p.m., the 25-year old swimmer went missing after jumping from a cliff.

(MARION COUNTY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The drowning victim from Tuesday's tragic incident has been identified as 25-year old Kung Shing Yau, of Hong Kong, China. Mr. Yau was a student at Linn Benton Community College and had been studying abroad in the United States for the last 7 years.

The Sheriff's Office's thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Yau's family, friends and classmates.
