Israeli Envoy Expelled on Identity Theft

The Australian government decision was the top story in most Israeli media last night.

(TEL AVIV) - Foreign Minister Stephen Smith AN ISRAELI diplomat will be expelled by week's end, and intelligence-sharing between ASIO and Mossad halted, after an investigation found Israel forged four Australian passports for use in a Dubai assassination.

A Little Boy of Bethlehem

Article originally published in 2007 is a snapshot in time, these are Eileen's observations from that year, during her 7th trip to Israel.

(BETHLEHEM) - Little boy in Bethlehem My last six trips to Israel and occupied Palestine have been driven by the fierce urgency of now and a sense of calling; to go-bear witness-and report about the lives of regular people living under military occupation and to learn about and support the grass root efforts of Israeli, Palestinian and International nonviolent activists against the occupation of Palestine.

A Critical Resistance Boycott: Arizona and the Big Picture

The theft of a continent is not a closed chapter in human history (Nor has it become legal simply because of the passage of time).

(PHOENIX, Az.) - Boycot Arizona The first rule of any boycott is to keep your eyes on the prize; translated, this means never lose sight of the problem, the objectives, the solutions and the bigger picture.

Arizona is speeding towards an apartheid state. Some of this rush has to do with repressive laws (including the legalization of racial profiling and the elimination of ethnic studies) passed by the Republican-dominated legislature and recently signed by the governor.

Our Trip to Iran

Our visit was during the “liberal” presidency of Mohammad Khatami and a “liberal” Parliament. It was a more relaxed time in Iran.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Iranian kids I read with interest "Iran was not what we had Thought" by Kourosh Ziabari. I agree with Mr. Ziabari that Iran is a beautiful country with a rich history and well worth a visit. My wife and I traveled to Iran in November 2002, visiting Tehran, Shiraz, Persepolis, Bam (before the earthquake devastated this famous site), Kerman, Yasd, and Esfaham.

Wisecracks from and about Politicians

“My definition of a redundancy is an air-bag in a politician's car” -Larry Hagman

(HARRISVILLE, N.H.) - Stupid politician Can you remember the days when a politician used to crack wise and you did not have to wonder if it was a joke? I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said, “If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they’ll kill you”. There might be something to that! Maybe that is why we so rarely get a good laugh from politicians anymore... but I digress.

I thought it might be a good time to reminisce about the good old days when you could listen to a politician and walk away smiling rather than nauseous.

Even Picnics in Israel are Political

Neve Gordon describes the growing criminalization in Israel of civil disobedience and the restriction of peaceful resistance to extremely passive modes of protest, such as “standing on the side of the road with some kind of placard”.

(JERUSALEM) - Ezra Nawi Our farewell picnic to Ezra Nawi before his prison term for peaceful protest carried a new message to most Israeli picnics

Picnics, like almost everything else in Israel, are often political. Oz Shelach underlines this point in his collection of short stories Picnic Grounds, where he describes how a history professor takes his family on a picnic in the pine forest near Givat Shaul, a Jerusalem neighborhood.

Alan Hart Breaks Silence about 9/11 on the Kevin Barrett Show

Senior BBC Mideast Correspondent: “Here’s what may have REALLY happened on 9/11″!

(MCFARLAND, Wi.) - Israel and 9/11 Breaking his self-imposed rule against talking about 9/11, former Senior BBC Mideast Correspondent and author Alan Hart described what he thinks may have really happened on that fateful day on yesterday’s Kevin Barrett show.

Hart, who got to know Yasser Arafat and Golda Meir while serving as a Security Council-briefed Mideast peace negotiator, said that he has been assured by a top-level demolitions/engineering expert who wishes to remain anonymous that the three World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed by controlled demolitions, not plane crashes and fires.

Africa: Faces in Words

New weekly update on the breaking stories in the African nations.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - African children Unseen, unheard; no one should be the bearer of these two words. Unfortunately, Africa is often in the forefront of this association.

Our common humanity should change this; we should never look away because it is too distant. Our commitment to one another, to human rights, and the ability to learn should always keep us connected no matter the severity and complexity of problems.
