Secretary Clinton Announces Launch of State.Gov Person Finder Tool for Those Missing in Haiti

Stabbing Death Leads to Murder Charges in Portland (UPDATE)

An adult female stabbing victim was transported immediately to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - handcuffs Police detectives arrested a man on charges of Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, after an early morning stabbing that led to a woman's subsequent death.

Breast Milk Donations Needed for Haiti Quake Victims

A spokesperson for the group says all breast milk donations are screened and pasteurized before delivery.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Haitian refugees The World Health Organization and Adventist Medical Center are asking for human breast milk donations to help babies of the Haiti quake, and a Portland, Oregon group is the connection point for those who can help.

The Adventist Medical Center’s breast milk donor depot opened in August 2009 as the only donor depot in Portland, and one of only two donor depots in the Pacific Northwest. It has been the subject of a past Salem-News.com article.

Secretary-General to Travel to Haiti in Show of Solidarity

The UN launched a flash appeal for some $550 million this afternoon.

(NEW YORK) - Salem-News.com Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Haiti to show solidarity with the people of the impoverished nation.

UN emergency teams on the ground estimate that as many of half of the buildings in the worst-hit areas of the capital have been damaged or destroyed.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Camp Lejeune on the map Members of Congress accuse the Navy of delaying efforts to provide a more meaningful understanding of the health problems incurred by former Camp Lejeune residents.

The Navy has failed to provide funding requested by ATSDR for a cohort mortality study and a health survey as required by law.

Medical Teams International Responds to Crisis in Haiti

Their first team landed safely, the second team will leave Sunday, January 17.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Damage in Haiti Medical Teams International’s first disaster relief team arrived safely in Haiti today with medical personnel from throughout the Pacific Northwest; including Seattle, Portland and Spokane. The second team will leave Sunday, Jan. 17.

The team that arrived today included veteran volunteers Dr. Joe Markee of Portland, Ore. and Dr. Dan Diamond from Bremerton, Wash.

(PARIS) - Scene from `The Lost Embrace` by Daniel Burman Marilyn Milos (a nurse founder of the American movement NOCIRC against infantile sexual mutilation) wrote me: “I would put my own body between the scalpel and the baby.”

Reproaching her son to come back home late without warning, the excessive mum of Ariel, the thirty year old or so hero of the movie, also brings her body into play, possibly because of unconscious guilt for having let him be circumcised; why else would she have taken the cake knife that she is holding out to him, saying: “Kill me!”?
