When Did I Become the Senior Dad?

Now that I am the senior dad in the family, I'll reinforce tradition, establish others, try and be the best patriarchal figure I can be for my sons and my lovely bride of just one year

(AGOURA HILLS, Calif.) - Head of the table While walking with a friend the day after Thanksgiving, we shared our respective holiday experiences and noted that we were both now the senior dads--the main paternal figure in our respective families.

We laughed together, but it was a moment of melancholy and reflection, both of which were feelings I had this Thanksgiving.

Crews Battle Four More House Fires in Portland

Includes safety tips to keep you and your family alive this winter.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire and Rescue in Oregon logo Portland Fire and Rescue has responded to 4 other house fires since the early morning fire at SE 81st and Taylor. 3 of the 4 fires are related to the cold weather, according to the agency's spokesman, Lt. Dave Centers.

"All fires were a single alarm which brings 4 Engines, 1 Truck, 1 Rescue, 2 Chiefs, and 2 Investigators. Due to the extreme weather a Rehab Unit was called for on each fire. 27 to 30 Firefighters responded on each the 4 fires. At this time no injuries were reported at any of the fires."

Will the Weather Hold Out for the Geminid Meteor Shower?

First appearing in the 1860s it has steadily increased and with more than 130 per hour observed in 2008. It wasn't until 1983 that 3200 Phaethon was discovered and later attributed as the source of the meteor shower.

(Salem, Ore.) - Geminid meteor from San Francisco 2007 The Geminid meteor shower will peak December 14th and 15th (Sunday 9:10 p.m. PST). The Moon will be close to a new Moon which will help keep skies dark for a good display.

Unfortunately the clear cold weather is expected to be gone, replaced by cold and wet.

Oregon to Introduce Limited-Term Licenses in 2010

Driver license, ID card expiration date to be based on length of stay in U.S.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon DMV administrator tom mcclellan Starting in January 2010, Oregon will begin to issue limited-term driver licenses, instruction permits and identification cards to applicants who are lawfully in the United States under any type of temporary stay.

The expiration date for these limited-term cards will be based on the cardholder’s authorized length of stay in the U.S. If an applicant’s authorized length of stay is indefinite, Oregon will issue cards valid for one year at a time.

Medical Marijuana Advocates Hold Press Conference before LA City Council Hearing Tuesday

Possible closed session raises concerns of transparency as city is poised to adopt regulations.

(LOS ANGELES, Calif.) - It takes place at LA City Hall Medical marijuana advocacy organization Americans for Safe Access will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. in front of City Hall in advance of the expected vote on regulating dispensaries in Los Angeles.

The City Council has indicated they might meet in closed session to make the final deliberations on an ordinance that would regulate how and where medical marijuana dispensaries can operate in the city.

Sherwood Police Say Man Assaulted Officer During Traffic Arrest

Police say an officer wanted to cite a man for not wearing a seatbelt, but he resisted arrest and is in jail on 25k bail.

(SHERWOOD, Ore.) - Handcuffs Sherwood Police say a traffic stop led to a confrontation with an unruly passenger today, who kicked one of the police officers in the groin when they finally removed him from the vehicle.

Capt. Mark Daniel with Sherwood Police, says an officer stopped the car at 2:19 p.m. on SW Pacific Highway at SW Chapman Road because the passenger, 37-year old Justin Taylor, wasn't wearing a safety bely.
