Dallas Man Killed In Early Morning Crash On Highway 223

Fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Today at about 3:15AM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 223 near milepost 1 (just north of Dallas).

Preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound on Highway 223 (Kings Valley Highway) when it crossed into the southbound lanes where it struck a northbound 2000 Toyota Corolla head on.

Unemployment Tax Rates for Oregon Employers Will Remain Stable in 2017

Oregon's self-balancing approach results in the state having one of the strongest trust funds in the nation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon taxes Unemployment tax rates for most Oregon employers will remain stable in 2017. Tax rates will remain at schedule 4 for employers that pay into the system.

Tax Schedule 4 includes an average rate of 2.26% for the first $38,400 paid to each employee. The specific rate each employer will pay under the new schedule depends on how much they have used the unemployment insurance system.

UPDATE: Two Missing Hunters in Douglas County: FOUND

UPDATE: The two missing hunters have been found. Their vehicle had gotten stuck and they were just able to get free. They are safe and headed home.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - missing persons Eugene Police are seeking the public's help to find two Eugene men who went on a hunting trip in Douglas County and have not returned. They left yesterday, Tuesday, November 15, at 5:30 a.m. and were due back at 2 or 3 p.m. yesterday. The pair were planning to hunt between Elkton and Loon Lake.

They did not return, and their families have been unable to get a hold of them.

Those taken into custody for charges other than those related to the shooting on the Morrison Bridge (early Saturday morning) had their first court appearance Monday at the Justice Center at 2:00 p.m.

Hood River Power Outage Caused by Metallic Balloon

There are about 30 of these "balloon" outages a year, just in the Hood River area.

(HOOD RIVER, Ore.) - Mylar balloon A power outage that disrupted life in Hood River Nov. 12 was caused by a metallic-skinned helium balloon that got away.

The balloon from a nearby celebration apparently blew into a substation and made contact with electrical equipment and caused a short. Response came quickly and power was back on within 75 minutes. While rare, balloon-caused outages are regular occurrences.

Missing Woman Anna Schmidt Found Deceased Near Tooth Rock on Friday

Officials say it was an Accidental Death

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Anna Schmidt Schmidt was reported missing on Wednesday October 19 to Portland Police but was last seen by her roommate on Sunday October 16. Schmidt is a hiker and her vehicle was located on October 20 in the Columbia River Gorge near Bonneville Dam.

There were no signs of foul play. Investigators were concerned that she may have gotten lost or injured hiking in the Gorge. The Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was accidental.
