Muslim Bodies Bombarded with Hate Mail: Mosques in US Seek Protection

In California, authorities have already deployed police officers outside mosques as a precaution.

(WASHINGTON D.C. ) - Salem-News.com President Barack Obama stressed on Saturday that people of all faiths, including Muslims, served the US military, as mosques across America sought police protection.

On Thursday, a Muslim psychiatrist in the US Army, Maj Nidal Malik Hasan, killed 13 and wounded 30 people at the Fort Hood military base. And on Saturday, the US media warned that the shootings could likely post the sternest test for US Muslims since the Sept 11 terrorist attacks.

Washington County Man Life Flighted After Driving Into a Tree (PHOTOS)

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Crash in Washington County Oregon 11-8-09 Washington County Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident Sunday on NW Dairy Creek Road at NW Three Cedars Road. Sgt. Vance Stimler with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, says the vehicle left the road and hit a tree causing extensive damage and injuring the driver.

30-year old David Law of Washington County, was transported
by Life Flight to OHSU with life threatening injuries.

Marion County Deputy Survives Head on Crash (PHOTOS)

A Salem woman and her son also survived the crash.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Head-on crash in Marion County, Oregon 11-8-09 Marion County Deputy Mike Brewster was involved in a head-on vehicle crash while driving his marked patrol car on Quinaby Road NE and Clear Lake Road this morning at 10:07 a.m.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Sheriff's Office, says Brewster had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Salem Hospital where he is in stable condition and will be held overnight for observation.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - The Israeli attack on a UN compound and school in Gaza. In a stunning blow against international law and human rights, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a resolution on Tuesday attacking the report of the United Nations Human Rights Council's fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict.

The report was authored by the well-respected South African jurist Richard Goldstone and three other noted authorities on international humanitarian law, who had been widely praised for taking leadership in previous investigations of war crimes in Rwanda, Darfur, the former Yugoslavia, and elsewhere.

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - American forces maneuver in front of a sign honoring Afghan hero Massoud, with the historic Blue Mosque in the background. 40 years ago, 3 of us at Veterans Today, Bill Eckard, Eddie Harris and I were in South Vietnam, serving with an elite Marine Special Landing Team, looking for "terrorists." Decades later, our memories are less than clear. It was 4 a.m., 0400H, and we were searching a village. Bill remembers finding an AK47 in one hut, I think it was a Garand.

It's funny we all remember that morning, nothing outstanding about it. I remember being acutely aware I was in someone else's home, uninvited. This is how I was raised.

Republicans Fail to Defeat Obama`s Healthcare Plan in Congress

The plan to reel in insurance practices and provide healthcare to all Americans now goes to the Senate for approval.

Saturday evening at 11:15 p.m., the House of Representatives voted to pass their health insurance reform bill. Despite countless attempts over nearly a century, no chamber of Congress has ever before passed comprehensive health reform. It is a historic event.

The bill would expand coverage to most Americans and stop insurance practices like refusing to cover people with pre-existing medical conditions. The bill passed by a narrow vote of 220-215.
