Views of a rainy NW state from a South American Paradise.

(PATAGONIA, Argentina) - El Bolson, Argentina Patagonia is a long way from the USA not just in terms of the miles that a person has to travel to get here, but culturally and politically as well.

When I recently returned to our little outpost here in the southern cone, several of the neighbors dropped by to say welcome and chat for a bit. It was good to be back on our dusty lane in Patagonia where people value tranquility just ahead of raspberry jam.

Salem Police and FBI Investigate Bank Robbery

(SALEM, Ore.) - Images of Bank Robbery suspect: Salem Police The Salem Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating a robbery that occurred at approximately 11:10 am on October 19 at the MAPPs Credit Union located at 1900 Hines St SE in Salem.

The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the business and displayed a note to the teller. The suspect was able to escape the business with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled out the rear door of the business.

Saturday at 2:42 a.m. the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 22 at Joseph Street SE.

Fatal Weekend Crash Under Investigation

The driver of the Honda Prelude, 40-year old Reynaldo Velazquez-Celestino of Salem, was deceased at the scene and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fatal crash Deputies aren't sure why the driver of a 1985 Honda drove into the path of an oncoming vehicle early Saturday morning.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the vehicle crash at 5995 Hazelgreen Road NE just before 7:00 a.m. Saturday.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Nelscott Classic surf contest Organizers say the 2009 Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic and Big Wave Paddle In surf contest has a green light, and will be held Thursday, 22 October.

The event draws some of the biggest names in surfing to Lincoln City, to ride one of the largest reef waves in the world.

Medical Marijuana Advocates Hail New Fed Guidelines as Big Win

In spite of the news, a number of restrictions remain.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Salem-News.com The Associated Press broke a story late Sunday that the U.S. Department of Justice will be issuing new guidelines Monday to U.S. Attorneys regarding an official policy toward medical marijuana.

While the guidelines are yet to be released, advocates are hailing this formal policy as a major victory in the effort to allow states to implement medical marijuana laws without interference from the federal government.
