Search Suspended for Missing Boater near Astoria, Oregon

The Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria received the report at 12:26 p.m. and dispatched an HH-60 helicopter crew while a 25-foot motor lifeboat crew left from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Washington.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Tongue Point in Clatsop County, Oregon Coast Guard officials say the search has been suspended for a man at Tongue Point who went missing Sunday after the boat he was in struck a submerged object and capsized.

The Clatsop County Sheriff's Office has dispatched a dive team to the area hoping to find some sign of the missing man.

Truck Driver Dies in Crash on Interstate 5 at Belt Line Road Interchange (PHOTO UPDATE)

The victim was extricated by Eugene and transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield where he died from his injuries

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - fatal crash involving commercial trucks on I-5 in Oregon near Springfield 6-14-09 Police say a commercial truck driver from North Carolina died this afternoon at a Springfield-area hospital after a major freeway crash that happened around 12:30 p.m.

Oregon State Police Lieutenant Mike Bloom, says the truck's driver, 66-year old George R. Kent of Bunn, North Carolina, failed to stop for slowing traffic and ran into the back of another commercial vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 at the Belt Line Road interchange.

Oregon’s Merkley Strengthens Tobacco Control Bill (AUDIO)

One of the Senate additions to the bill is an amendment by Senator Jeff Merkley to include FDA oversight of the newest, dissolvable tobacco products packaged to look like mints or candy.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ONS) - Lighting a smoke It's being called the strongest anti-tobacco measure since the U.S. Surgeon General ruled more than 40 years ago that smoking causes lung cancer.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate voted to allow the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regulate tobacco. The House already passed a similar bill, and must now vote on the Senate's changes.

Medal of Valor Presented to Attempted Abduction Survivor

The Department will present a second individual with a medal of Valor for his courageous actions in helping ward off the attacker.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - (from left to right):  Officer Christine Peterson (uniform), Officer Brian Stahl (shirt and tie), Jessica Taylor-Weiss (with framed certificate and medal), Detective Shawn Houck (uniform), and Sergeant Mike Mann (plain clothes) Corvallis Police Department presented Jessica Taylor-Weiss with the Corvallis Police Department Medal of Valor for her courageous actions on October 7, 2006 as she successfully fought off an attempted abduction and sexual assault in the 500 block of NW 23rd Street.

The Corvallis Police Department will conduct an award ceremony at 4:00 PM on June 17, 2009 in the Corvallis Library to recognize Department members for a number of meritorious achievements, including members involved in successfully investigating this attack.

White House Meeting on Immigration Reform Postponed

The White House meeting would have come one week after 800 advocates from across the country visited Washington as part of the launch of the Reform Immigration For America Campaign.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Immigration Rights rally in Salem, Oregon The White House announced Friday that it would postpone a meeting with a bipartisan group of Congressional Leaders to discuss Immigration Reform.

The meeting, scheduled for June 17th, was announced last month after the Obama administration and Congressional leaders had been signaling their commitment to pass comprehensive immigration reform this year.

Salem Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

The hunt for the suspect came to a close when Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Shepherd spotted him in West Salem.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 63-year old James N. Flowers Salem Police say a suspect was arrested shortly after he robbed a Salem bank with a demand note, and then fled in a vehicle. Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada says the incident began Saturday at 11:01 a.m. when the Salem Police received a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred at the Chase Bank at 480 Glen Creek Road NW in Salem.

(GENEVA) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon THe UN today launched the “WMD-WeMustDisarm” campaign, beginning the 100-day countdown to the 2009 United Nations International Day of Peace.

This year the event focuses on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. Over the next 100 days teh UN will raise awareness of the need to eliminate nuclear weapons by issuing a daily message on social networking sites.

Iran Announces Landslide Win for Ahmadinejad (VIDEO)

(TEHRAN Arab News) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared winner yesterday by a landslide in Iran's presidential vote, triggering riots by opposition supporters and furious complaints of cheating from his defeated rivals.

Ahmadinejad went on television to declare the election a "great victory," even as baton-wielding police clashed with protesters in the streets of the capital in unrest not seen for a decade.

In the heart of Tehran, thousands of Mousavi supporters voiced their disbelief and frustration at the results, with some throwing stones at police who struck back with batons.
