Oregon Police Agencies Participate in Special Olympics Torch Run (VIDEO)

The torch runners passed through Salem Wednesday.

(SALEM, Ore.) - runners Salem Police officers joined other law enforcement agencies from the local area for the "Flame of Hope" annual Law Enforcement Torch Run June 3rd. Officers joined state troopers and country deputies in running the torch over the twelve-mile course that wound through the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Salem Police officers received the torch from members of the Marion County Sheriff's Office at the Sunnyside/Turner Exit on Interstate 5 and ran the torch up Commercial Street, stopping at the Salem Civic Center for a brief ceremony.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Safari Town Surf Shop Life can come about full circle sometimes, and I consider that when I think of my longtime friends from the beach, Tony and Jeanne Gile. Their business, Safari Town Surf Shop in Lincoln City is celebrating its 20-year anniversary.

I am heartened that Oregon so completely accepted the sport of surfing in recent years. I'm not surprised by Tony's success, and I am glad that his shop has been one of the driving forces making surfing a regular everyday part of Oregon's beach culture.

Police Release Names of Officers in Fatal Shooting of Milwaukie Man

The officers involved in the shooting death of 22-year old Jesse Aaron Weatherford of Milwaukie, are Sgt. Tom Broomfield and Officer Luke Strait.

(MILWAUKIE, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Milwaukie Police officers responded to the Northridge Condos at 12600 SE Freeman Way June 2, 2009 at 4:24 p.m. A subject was reported to be bleeding and armed with a knife. The two Milwaukie officers responded to the scene and report that they were confronted by a subject armed with a knife in the parking lot.

"When orders to drop the weapon were ignored, officers were forced to take action. The subject was ultimately shot and died at the scene," Police Spokesman Kevin Krebs said.

Senate Votes in Support of Access to HPV Vaccine

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, with approximately 20 million people currently infected, and is the main cause of cervical cancer in women.

In 1979, GM was the largest corporation in the world in terms of sales.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - GM Buildings in Downtown Detroit Now that the American public is the major shareholder of GM, a concern raised by many is that government, being inherently incapable of running or overseeing any kind of business, is going to mismanage the whole operation. This assumes that big business is better than big government. In my previous article "Capitalism cannot work."

I drew the obvious conclusion that for the last fifty years, the management of GM, Ford and Chrysler have driven the industry into the ground. So, Big Business itself has obviously failed.

Oregon Senate Cracks Down on Predatory Towing Companies

House Bill 2578 prohibits this practice except for in cases where public safety or access is compromised. The bill would also require a tower to take photographic evidence of a parking infraction before towing a vehicle
