OSP Springfield Trooper Selected as 2008 `Trooper of the Year`

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) -
A Springfield-area Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division trooper known for having "an outstanding ability to place himself in the right place at the right time" received the division's 2008 "Fish & Wildlife Division Officer of the Year" award.
Trooper Marc Boyd, age 44, was presented the award by Captain Walt Markee, OSP Fish & Wildlife Division director, and Sergeant Tom Hulett during a presentation at the OSP Springfield Area Command office.

Man Dies in Single Car Crash in Southern Oregon

Police say the vehicle rolled and became airborne before crashing.
(ROSEBURG, Ore.) -
State troopers are investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that resulted in the death of a Roseburg-area man Tuesday night, who was ejected from his out-of-control car northbound on Interstate 5 about seven miles south of Cottage Grove.
It happened at approximately 8:17 p.m. police say, when a 2000 Hyundai two-door driven by 32-year old Jason Winchell Gerkin of Roseburg, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 167.

Commission Orders Returns of $32 million to NW Natural Customers

(SALEM, Ore.) -
Customers of NW Natural gas will receive a one-time refund that will reduce their rates by 3.4% effective June 1, 2009.
Tuesday, the Oregon Public Utility Commission ordered the return of $32 million to customers because NW Natural has saved money when it bought natural gas on the wholesale market between November 1st 2008 and March 31st 2009.

Sgt. John Russel: A Reprise - Condemned to the Hell of PTSD

Sgt. Russel, who has seen too much war and strife and sought help for his night terrors which is THE hallmark of PTSD, was probably told by the medics to “suck it up” which is a disdainful way of saying “don’t be a wimp”.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
Sgt. Russel has had a tough life. According to his father he was dyslexic which means when he read words the letters were scrambled like a puzzle. School is tough enough without having scrambled words.
He apparently did not have a decent steady job after school but like many in the same situation joined the National Guard for spending money.

Corps Stresses Safety Around Oregon Coast Jetties

Construction of the jetties began more than 100 years ago to help mariners navigate between the Pacific Ocean and coastal ports, and were never intended for recreational purposes.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds visitors to the coast that jetties were not constructed for recreation purposes and that they should avoid fishing from, and walking, driving or climbing on these structures because of the potential hazards.

Heceta Head Lighthouse Will Shine Again

Heceta Head Lighthouse's light will shine again Wednesday, after being off more than three months.
(HECETA HEAD, Ore.) -
The repairs have been completed on the Heceta Head Lighthouse's lantern rotating system. Lighthouse repair specialists finished replacing worn out friction rollers and bearings in the carriage wheel assembly that rotates the lantern earlier this week.
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department turned off the light February 1st when inspectors warned that rotating the lantern without the repairs could have caused further damage to the carriage assembly and the light.

This is a follow up to an earlier report about an incident in mid-April involving Border Patrol agents and police officers from the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety.

A Baptist minister from the Phoenix, Arizona area, received numerous injuries from police during a dramatic incident April 14th, that was an apparent result of his refusal to submit to what he considered to be, a violation of his Fourth Amendment Right to Privacy.
It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Steven Anderson is an American Civil Rights crusader.
