Senate Votes in Support of Healthy Waterways for Oregon

Phosphorus limitations expanded to include household dishwashing detergents.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon river Rivers, lakes, and groundwater will be better protected with legislation passed this morning by the Senate. Senate Bill 631 extends the state’s ban on phosphorus to include household dishwasher detergent.

“This is a great bill for cleaning up Oregon’s rivers, streams, and lakes,” said Senator Jackie Dingfelder (D-Portland), chair of Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee. “Phosphorus can cause a buildup of algae that ultimately leads to biological death in some waterways.”

Gunman Kills Eight Sick & Elderly People in N.C. Nursing Home (VIDEO)

The gunman is alive and in police custody.

(RALEIGH, N.C.) - Shooting scene in N.C. Eight mostly elderly and sick people were killed by a lone gunman Sunday in a North Carolina nursing home.

Police say 45-year old Robert Stewart, went room by room shooting elderly victims until a Carthage, N.C. Police Officer Justin Garner shot and wounded him in a hallway, ending what officials called a bloodbath.

Four Springfield Residents Nabbed for Illegal Killing of 3 Elk

OSP Fish & Wildlife troopers cite hunters Northwest of Roseburg.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Senior Trooper Frerichs at location of concealed dead elk courtesy: Oregon State Police Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division troopers cited three men and a juvenile male all from Springfield on Saturday afternoon when a field contact led to the discovery of three illegally killed cow elk northwest of Roseburg.

On March 28th 2009 at approximately 3:00 p.m. OSP Senior Troopers Wayne Merritt and Don Frerichs were patrolling the Bateman Ridge area near Tyee about 20 miles northwest of Roseburg.

(SEATTLE) - Sailboat after striking Oregon bridge 3-29-09 The Coast Guard responded to a disabled sailing vessel after it collided with the Vancouver Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge in Vancouver, Wash., Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Portland Ore., received a report at 1:32 p.m., that the mast of the sailing vessel Grace collided with the Vancouver Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge.

Portland Firefighters Rescue Arborist Pinned in Tree (PHOTOS)

The man was pinned by a branch, 35 to 40 feet up the tree.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire & Rescue Portland Fire & Rescue's Specialty Rescue Team was called out at 11:43 a.m. on a report of an arborist who was pinned against a tree.

Lt. Damon Simmons with Portland Fire & Rescue says the man was cutting the tree when a large limb fell, striking him in the shoulder and pinning his harness and arm to the tree.

(BANDON, Ore.) - Fatal crash Oregon coast 3-28-09 A 41-year old man residing from Langlois, Oregon died Saturday night in a single vehicle crash on Highway 101 south of Bandon.

Police say the victim's name will be released once next of kin notification has been confirmed.
