Officials Fear Whale Near Florence Tried to Reach the Beach

OSP, NOAA and US Coast Guard Monitor Whale near Ocean Shore north of Florence (Photos)‏ The whale apparently was able to move away from shore as the tide moved in.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Beached whale A Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted a whale today that they believed had beached itself about one mile north of Driftwood Shores near Sutton Creek in the Florence area.

(SALEM, Ore.) - scam alert Scammers are already using President Obama’s economic stimulus package to try and rip off consumers.

Email messages ask for bank information, claiming they will directly deposit stimulus money. Instead, scammers drain the consumer’s bank account and vanish.

President Obama Announces Recovery Act Allocations for Oregon Law Enforcement

The Recovery Act includes more than $4 billion to assist state, local and tribal law enforcement.

(COLOMBUS, Ohio) - President Barack Obama President Barack Obama today announced $2 billion in Recovery Act 2009 funding allocations for state and local law enforcement assistance available through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, including over $22 million for the state of Oregon.

The JAG Program supports a variety of efforts such as hiring and support for law enforcement officers; multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces; crime prevention and domestic violence programs; and courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives.

Family Survives Serious Crash in NE Salem (PHOTOS)

The driver, 31-year old Krista Fisher of Keizer had to be extricated from the vehicle.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A Mercedes SUV crashed around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, and deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office say the victims in the single car crash in the 3000 Block of Perkins Street NE are fortunate to have not been hurt worse.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says the 2000 Mercedes SUV went off the road and impacted a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle.

Gresham Police Arrest 2008 Homicide Suspect

35-year old James Tooley was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on two Counts of Aggravated Murder.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Oregon Murder suspect James Tooley Gresham Police Detectives arrested James Tooley today for the homicide of Anthony Cooper and Melinda Kotkins.

In August of 2008. Mr. Cooper and Ms. Kotkins were found deceased in their Gresham residence.

(SALEM, Ore.) - OSP Badge 41 Oregon State Police recruit troopers will graduate Saturday, March 7th, marking the end of nearly 25 weeks of training they received at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem.

Starting January 2007, OSP integrated recruit trooper training with newly hired city and county officers for the 16-week DPSST training at the Oregon Public Safety Academy.
