Venezuela questions US `War on Drugs`

News on the 'Drug War' from a non-western perspective.

(TEHRAN) - U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration operation in 2005 Venezuela wants to send a mission to the US to see how well it fights drug trafficking, five days after the US criticized the country's war on drugs.

The request was made by Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Diaz, to four visiting members of the US Congress' Government Accountability Office (GAO) earlier this week, her office said in a statement.

Amnesty has also called for the United Nations to impose a mandatory arms embargo on Hamas and Israel. Unfortunately, it appears that President Barack Obama won't be heeding Amnesty's call.

Hawk Struck by Vehicle on Freeway

The raptor was extricated and taken to the Audubon Society for treatment.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Injured hawk An Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife trooper and Milwaukie-area man worked together to rescue a hawk that was lodged in the front section of the man's sport utility vehicle after it was struck Wednesday morning on Interstate 5.

"The hawk was transported by the trooper to the Audubon Society of Portland to be examined for its injuries," OSP Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

New Data Shows One-Fifth of all Mortgages Underwater

Salem Shows 10.1 Percent of Mortgages in Negative Equity.

(SALEM, Ore.) - First American CoreLogic More than 8.3 million U.S. mortgages, or 20 percent of all properties with a mortgage, were in a negative equity position as of December 31, 2008, according to newly released data from First American CoreLogic.

This compares with 7.6 million, or 18 percent, of all mortgages in negative equity as of September 30, 2008. Approximately 700,000 additional borrowers slid into a negative equity position in the last quarter.
