Munich State Prosecutor: Nazi Death Camp Guard Will be Tried

Ukraine-born Demjanjuk denies any involvement in war crimes.

(MUNICH, Germany) - Demjanjuk hearing his death sentence on April 25, 1988. A German prosecutor rejected criticism on Wednesday that suspected Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk is not being brought to trial fast enough before the 88-year-old dies.

Anton Winkler said his office has been examining evidence against Demjanjuk since Dec. 30 and hopes to have him extradited from the US for a trial in Germany as soon as possible - possibly in the next month.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Free training for clergy and related staff to address the special needs of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans and their families is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11th at the Lane County Armed Forces Reserve Center in Springfield, Oregon.

The training is sponsored by the Portland VA Medical Center, VA Roseburg Health Care System, The Oregon National Guard and VISN 20 Mental Illness Research, Educational and Clinical Centers.

Body Found on Hood River Trail

Although the cause of death has yet to be determined, investigators do not believe that foul play was a factor.

(CASCADE LOCKS, Ore.) - Death investigation Deputies say Thursday afternoon, Hood River Sheriff's Office Investigators were notified of a body located on a popular hiking trail, west of Cascade Locks.

Hood River 911 received a call at 3:22 p.m. from a hiker on the Eagle Creek Trail. The hiker reported finding the body of an adult Caucasian female, about three miles from the trailhead.

Oregon Troopers Make Second Large Suspected Cocaine Bust in Less than a Week

The traffic stop led to the discovery of approximately 51 lbs. of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of about $700,000.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Counterclockwise from top left; Maneul Alberto Castro Lugo, Rigo Humberto Lamas-Ponce and Joel Lucian Ruelas-Castro In less than one week, Oregon State Police troopers have made a significant seizure of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop.

The latest traffic stop Thursday afternoon on Interstate 5 north of Woodburn led to the arrest of three men and the seizure of approximately 51 lbs. of suspected cocaine.

Armed Barricaded Suspect Keeps Salem SWAT Team and Keizer Police at Bay for Hours

26-year old John Nathan White was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and 3 counts of Reckless Endangering. His total bail amount was $25,000.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - 26-year old John Nathan White Police responded to the report of several gunshots being fired in an apartment on Lockhaven Drive Northeast last night around 10:22 p.m.

Officers learned shots went through a neighboring apartment wall where the three victims were sleeping.

Hillsboro Police Investigate Vehicle Fatal Car vs.Pedestrian Collision

Upon arriving on scene Hillsboro Fire and Rescue pronounced the pedestrian, 46-year old Danny O. Hogan, dead from the injuries sustained in this collision.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Death investigation Police and fire units in Hillsboro responded to a car versus pedestrian crash in the 20600 block of Quatama Road in Hillsboro this morning at 7:20 a.m.

Lt. Michael Rouches with Hillsboro Police says the collision occurred when a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV was traveling eastbound on Quatama Rd. approaching Sunbird Terrace.

Oregon Receives $6.2 From Tobacco Companies

The historic multi-billion dollar tobacco settlement compensates states for the cost of treating tobacco-related diseases.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Man with money in suit Attorney General John Kroger announced today that Oregon has received $6.2 million in disputed tobacco payments that are part of a master settlement between cigarette-makers and the states.

“This payment comes at a critical time, with the state facing a massive budget crisis. These funds will help pay for essential services to help people in need” Kroger said.
