UN Security Council Renews Call for Ceasefire
Salem-News.com
Over 570 Palestinians have already been killed, and over 2,700 have been injured with Israel’s offensive moving into its 12th day.
(GAZA) -
The Security Council convened on the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza this evening, with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warning that today’s deadly Israeli shelling of United Nations schools where hundreds of Gazans had sought refuge made a ceasefire more urgent than ever.
“Three UNRWA [UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East] schools, set up by the United Nations as places of refuge for civilians fleeing the fighting, have been hit in adjacent Israeli strikes,” Mr. Ban told the Council at the start of the session, noting that the third strike at a school in Jabalia refugee camp killed dozens of civilians.

These attacks reinforce the urgent need for a ceasefire to end the mounting casualties, Ban said, demanding an independent investigation.
(NEW YORK) -
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today spoke out against Israel’s “totally unacceptable” attacks against three clearly-marked United Nations schools, where civilians were seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with a senior official calling for an independent inquiry into the incidents which claimed dozens of lives.
More than two dozen schools run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) are serving as temporary shelters to more than 15,000 Palestinians whose homes have been destroyed or who are fleeing the violence.
The agency’s education programmes have been suspended since the start of Israeli air attacks on Gaza, which Israel says it launched in response to rocket attacks by Hamas militants, on December 27th.

Venezuela Tosses Israeli Ambassador and Embassy Staff
Tim King Salem-News.com
Today's bombing of a UN school in Gaza by Israeli forces was a strong topic at the U.N.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Venezuela responded to the bloodshed in Gaza on Tuesday by expelling Israel's ambassador and embassy staff. This is not a new reaction for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a harsh critic of both Israel and the United States, who has withdrawn Venezuela's diplomatic envoys in the past over political differences.
In fact, last year the country kicked U.S. ambassador out the over with allied Bolivia.
Venezuela's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Israel's campaign constituted "flagrant violations of International Law" and the use of "state terrorism."

PTSD Policemen: My Dogface Brothers in Blue
Dr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.com
Before any cops think I am calling them a bad name… read on. Dogface is an honorific term for an infantryman who has survived 30 days of combat. Many did not last 30 minutes.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
If any non-military persons ever deserved the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) it is policemen. Three examples of the inherent danger of being a policeman showed up in stark horror in December in Woodburn, Oregon with two policemen blown to bits and another with a leg blown off.
I am drawn to say that a Police Badge is almost the equivalent of The CIB. If you watch TV of the urban warfare in Iraq you get the notion of a police chase through a town and recently three policemen trying to disarm the bomb which killed two of them.
