Oregon Average falls to $1.80; National Average drops below $1.70
Salem-News.com
Gas prices continue to drop like a rock, with the national average reaching its lowest point since March 2004, and Oregon's average falling to levels we last saw in January 2005.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
The national average hasn't been this low since March 1st, 2004 when it was $1.69 a gallon. Regular unleaded fell 11 cents in the past week to just under $1.70. Oregon's average is the lowest it's been since January 2005. It drops 12 cents this week to $1.80, says AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds.
"Both averages are more than $2.40 a gallon lower than the record highs of more than $4 a gallon set in July. That's a decline of about 58% in just five months."
The price of crude oil has fallen more than $100 per barrel since setting the record high of $147 per barrel on July 11, 2008. Today crude is trading at about $43 per barrel, after dropping to $40.81 last Friday. Dodds says, "The steep decline in crude prices is because of the faltering global economy and the resulting soft demand for fuel in the coming months."

Catholic Bishop Publicly Criticizes Official Story of 9/11 (VIDEO)
Tim King Salem-News.com
Bishop Richard Williamson speaks out against the official theory of the events of 9/11.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
I was flat out amazed today to hear a Roman Catholic Bishop state a number of points about September 11th 2001, that I have written about in the past. The facts that contradict the official story are endless, and I think anyone who looked at the story with an open mind can comprehend that the U.S. government's version of what happened that tragic day is literally, impossible.
The list of experts who agree is long. This isn't a small matter. If the Bush Administration's version of the events that day are not accurate and true, then we have been bamboozled in a way that almost defied comprehension.
The tools of the trade; FOX NEWS pundits and their leagues of supporters, claim that it is un-American to question what happened on 9/11. In fact it is anything but that.

Gresham Plugs In With Charging Station for Electric Vehicles
Salem-News.com
See the new station in action Tuesday, December 16th.
(GRESHAM, Ore.) -
The City of Gresham is unveiling the city's first Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station as part of Portland General Electric's new network of charging stations in the region. Gresham is the third city government in Oregon to install a plug-in station and the eighth location in PGE's growing network of stations.
The EV charging station provides the general public the opportunity to recharge their electric vehicles with renewable energy from PGE. There is no charge to use the station. Drivers simply park their cars at the Gresham City Hall station and plug in their vehicles the same way a household appliance plugs into the wall.
With concerns about global warming and rising fuel costs, city leaders and Gresham residents are looking for more economical and sustainable transportation options. The City of Gresham joined forces with PGE to install the station to help develop and test the transportation infrastructure needed to support plug-in vehicles. Automobile manufacturers are expected roll out a new generation of electric vehicles within the next few years.

Medical Marijuana and the Ignorant, Arrogant Oregon Medical Board
By Al Hayward for Salem-News.com
Oregon's medical marijuana application process shouldn't have been made any more complicated than obtaining a handicapped parking permit.
(THE DALLES ) -
In a naked attempt to kill the voter-approved Medical Marijuana Act, the Oregon Medical Board made a hero and martyr out of Dr. Phillip Leveque by appearing to be above the law in revoking Leveque's ability to approve applications for medical marijuana cards and fining him $25,000 for allegedly not seeing all cross-state applications in person. Many are quadriplegic.
That requirement was added after the fact, and the Medical Marijuana Act stipulated that doctors could not be prosecuted for expressing their opinion as to whether or not a person had one of nine aliments that might entitle him to obtain a $150 annual medical marijuana card from the state of Oregon.
This card, in bypassing federal law, does not make possession legal but protects the cardholder from prosecution in Oregon.

Trout Program Produces Big Fish, Big Bucks
Salem-News.com
The $5 million cost of the trout stocking program is funded through the sale of Oregon fishing licenses and a federal excise tax on the sale of fishing tackle.
(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) -
There is perhaps no outdoor program touched more Oregonians or generated more excitement, enthusiasm and sheer joy than the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s trout stocking program.
Every year, ODFW releases millions of rainbow trout into hundreds of Oregon ponds, lakes and streams, giving eager youngsters and adults the opportunity to catch their first fish. In 2008 alone, the agency released nearly 6 million trout in hundreds of locations around the state.
“It’s become a real popular program,” said Hal Boldt, trout stocking coordinator for ODFW’s Northwest Region, which plants rainbow trout in 96 lakes and ponds from Bonneville Dam to the Oregon Coast and as far south as Eugene. Everywhere Boldt and ODFW drivers go, they receive a hero’s welcome when they back their tankers filled with rainbow trout down to the water’s edge and open the gate valve.
