The Merck Manual indicates 20 percent of women and 12 percent of men will suffer clinical depression. This is a rather depressing world we’re living in.
Antidepressant drugs are among the most prescribed medications but their adverse side effects can often be paradoxically lethal with suicide being prominent.
Todays TV news presents a new electromagnetic machine for depression which stimulates the brain which probably causes cannabinoid secretions which makes patient subjects feel better. It had better, a treatment series costs 6 thousand dollars.

China Expert Hayward Warns Against Obama`s `Socialist` Plan For America (VIDEO)
Bonnie King Salem-News.com
An interview with Al Hayward, 25-year China expert, who says his opinions about Obama won't be popular but promises of less work - more money have failed before.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Al Hayward, a Chinese trade expert, says “you can drown by tipping the canoe too far in either direction”, and he is worried that what he calls Barack Obama’s “socialistic promises” are tipping this country too far toward communism.
“What bothers me very much is the fact that Obama’s campaign is based on ‘do less, work less, get more’, and the reality of this is it doesn’t work that way,” Hayward said.
Al Hayward has lived, worked, and done business in mainland China and other communist countries for decades, and he is currently working on a 20 billion dollar “City of Tomorrow” project near Macau.

Chemeketa Community College Sold $50 Million in Bonds In One Day
Salem-News.com
Chemeketa Community College is a publicly-funded Oregon higher education institution serving Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The sale Friday was the first resulting from the passing of a $92 million bond measure, approved by voters in May 2008. The sale was also a breakthrough for the Chemeketa College, which had planned to offer the bonds last month just as the municipal bond market began to freeze.
"Sale of the bonds also puts the college on track to keep the commitments made to the community when it asked voters for approval," said Craig Smith, a vice president at Chemeketa, and it’s chief financial officer.
“Supporting the construction of new facilities at community colleges is one of the most immediate ways to pump good-paying jobs into the economy as construction gets underway,” said Smith.

Orange County Turns Blind Eye to Toxicity of Former Marine Base
Tim King Salem-News.com
Orange County learns few lessons in the world of business as a toxic waste site is prepared for habitation.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
One of the only U.S. counties to ever declare bankruptcy, Orange County, California, has a bear of a problem on its hands. That problem is the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro; a shell of its former self that now rests within the confines of Irvine, since it was annexed.
El Toro was placed on the U.S. government's Base Realignment and Closure list and the last fighter jets lifted off the flight deck at El Toro in 1999. The initial plans for the reservation involved creating a new airport for Orange County; one that would have relieved the strain on traffic patterns at the John Wayne Airport. That plan was scrapped in favor of developing the area in to a housing community and park.
The big secret that hides behind the gates of this former military air base is that the Marines and Navy turned it into a virtual toxic waste dump. It isn't that much of a secret really, plenty of people know that trichloroethelyne or TCE, was used to clean planes here for decades and that it is a problem, but few comprehend the significance of the problem.

Bush Continues to Make All The Wrong Moves in Iraq
Perspective by Tim King Salem-News.com
It seems almost tragic to consider the "Bring Iraq Democracy" rhetoric when you look at the current picture.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
I find it amazing that the people who cry out loudest about Barack Obama raising taxes are the same people who support Bush, McCain and the war in Iraq. Our nation has squandered hundreds of billions of tax dollars waging a lethal operation that has cost thousands of lives and is no success story, to put it mildly.
Bush's reign has disrupted and destabilized the entire world. September 11th was tragic but it didn't have a darned thing to do with Iraq. I have been to Iraq and I have seen the instability. With a world coalition of partners, the former President Bush spent billions invading Iraq during Desert Storm and then left Saddam Hussein in power. He was a far more experienced politician and he knew that destabilizing a nation like Iraq was far too risky.
The currently administration has not only played bully with the world, it has substantially abused our military and we as a society will deal with the fallout from this for decades to come.

Elder Abuse Prevention Month Highlights Under-Reported but Growing Problem
Salem-News.com
Anyone witnessing or suspecting abuse of those populations is asked to call the toll-free Abuse Hotline: 1-800-232-3020.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
During Elder Abuse Prevention Month, state officials are focusing on the fact that elder abuse is a growing problem nationally and in Oregon, but very few abuse cases are ever reported. National studies estimate that 3-5 million seniors age 65 and older nationwide have experienced abuse, but only one in five abuse cases is reported.
“No type of abuse should be tolerated, but elder abuse is an under-reported crime because people do not know how to recognize the signs, and they don’t know how to report it when they do see it,” says James D. Toews, Oregon Department of Human Services assistant director for seniors and people with disabilities.
“We have to raise awareness of elder abuse and ways to report it before we can hope to prevent it.”
