The Religious Factor
Commentary by Kenneth Ramey for Salem-News.com
The Far Right is still calling the shots.
(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) -
Evangelists who presume to speak for God, fervently believe Christianity is the wave of the future; that Jesus can do no wrong, even though Christians amount to only about 30 % of the world’s population, making Jesus less than a Universal Lord.
Geo. W. Bush is a disciple of this philosophy, and his faith prevents him from recognizing danger or reversals that should not be neglected. He invaded Iraq confident that Jesus would not let him down, and, with the aid of K. Rove, et al., Bush believes Christianity [God’s plan] is to achieve worldwide dominance on the American model.

Lost Gear Means Slowing of Video Reports
Tim King Salem-News.com
The mystery of the missing gear continues to impact Salem-News.com and delay video reports coming from Iraq.
(BALAD, Iraq) -
My video reports are at a bit of a standstill at this time as my main pack containing much of my video gear is lost somewhere in Iraq. I thought it was important to relay this information to those who are becoming accustomed to seeing new reports every two or three days.
I left the Marine Corps Air Station at Al Asad, Iraq five days ago enroute back to Balad. I was scheduled to go straight to Tikrit where I was to embed with the Army's 101st Airborne. With luck this will still happen, but with each day the gear remains missing, an accompanying level of frustration builds accordingly.

Fresno Becomes 41st California County to Adopt Medical Marijuana ID Card Program
Salem-News.com
MPP says the decision is a sign that counties can no longer ignore the law.
(FRESNO, Calif.) -
The Fresno County Board of Supervisors voted 3-1 today to adopt a medical marijuana I.D. card system, making it the 41st county to comply with a requirement mandated by a 2003 state law. One board member abstained.
By giving patients the option of obtaining cards identifying them as qualified medical marijuana patients, law enforcement officers will be able to quickly discern whether they are operating within the law, sparing taxpayers the burden of costly, time-consuming false arrests, advocates said.

Op Ed: National Testing Kills Local Education; NCLB Represents Fascistic System
Henry Clay Ruark Salem-News.com
Bush's No Child Left Behind movement destroys the “common school” experience, one of the strongest and far-seeing foundations for our democracy.
(EUGENE, Ore.) -
Built on the commonsense concept that the local residents would naturally know best what their children really needed for education, “local control” was part of the original, then radical, concept for republican democracy.
It is at least as important today as when it was first set up to provide the steady flow of workers and entrepreneurs demanded in our earlier days.
NCLB was the Bush neocon-cabal opening, their destructive first-shot to deny and defeat that long-standing basic principle in our American educational system.
