Stayton`s Oldest Home Demolished

The local phone company owns the property and they tried to save the house prior to its destruction by offering it for sale for 1$ to anyone that could move it.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Oregon`s Stayton House in the last day in its 134 years A Stayton landmark disappeared last week when construction crews razed the town's oldest house, originally built in 1873 by Drury E. Stayton, one of the founding families of this community.

It happened Wednesday about 9:00 AM, when Canyon Contracting began demolishing the old grey Stayton Family home located on High street between first and second street on the north side of the street. This house, according to local resident Bob Remington, was the oldest in Stayton, existing since 1873 when it was constructed by Drury E. Stayton.

Police Identify Missing Fisherman Off Oregon Coast

The man who fell overboard was wearing yellow rain gear but was not wearing a life jacket

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - 22-year old Andrew Jay Jessup Herbert-Hopper of Tangent Oregon State Police has taken a missing person report related to a fisherman who reportedly fell overboard in the Pacific Ocean Friday morning five miles northwest of the Siuslaw River.

The Coast Guard suspended their day-long search Friday evening. The missing man is identified as 22-year old Andrew Jay Jessup Herbert-Hopper of Tangent. A trooper assigned to the Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division took the report Friday at approximately 9:30 PM after the 75-foot fishing vessel Zora Belle arrived in port.

13-Year Old Boy From Vancouver Area Located

The boy has been found.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Anthony K. Abruzzini Police say 13-year old boy from the Vancouver, Washington area who was reported missing has contacted his parents and is OK.

The parents of Anthony K. Abruzzini called 9-1-1 to report their son as missing Friday at 5:30 PM.

Oregon Governor Says Cutting Red Tape Accelerated Federal Aid

Federal government approves Kulongoski's request for disaster aid to Oregon.

(SALEM, Ore.) - FEMA Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has received approval for federal aid to repair damage to communities that resulted from severe early-December storms, the Governor's office announced Saturday.

The Governor received notification of approval of his request for a presidential disaster declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 11:50 AM on Saturday. The aid is for "public assistance" for which state and local agencies are eligible, not for individuals.

Oregon Communities Will Receive FEMA Aid

FEMA says damage surveys are continuing in other areas, and more counties and additional forms of assistance may be designated after the assessments are fully completed.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The rail line in Tillamook washed away by floods President Bush declared today that a major disaster exists in the State of Oregon and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides beginning on December 1st and continuing.

The request was made this week by Governor Ted Kulongoski after several regions in Oregon went underwater under the heavy rains.

CIA Suffers `Blowback` from Destroying Videotapes That Documented Torture

The CIA told a judge the tapes didn't exist, as he tried one of the suspects actually shown on the video.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The head of a major arm of the U.S. government caught in a major lie; Michael Hayden heads the Central Intelligence Agency It's a spooky world out there. That is confirmed once again by the CIA as they admitted this week to destroying videotapes of highly controversial interrogation techniques used against terrorism suspects.

The tapes are said to include waterboarding and other controversial and internationally condemned techniques used as early as 2002. One of the suspects who was shown being tortured was Abu Zubaydah, the first detainee in CIA custody.

O`Brien Auto Group Announces Pending Purchase of Salem`s DeLon Auto Center

Purchase Includes Five Dealerships, Marks Beginning of O'Brien Expansion into Oregon.

(BELLEVUE, Wash.) - Inside the DeLon showroom O'Brien Auto Group (OAG), one of the largest- and most-successful auto dealers in Washington state, today announced its intent to purchase DeLon Auto Center of Salem, Oregon. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase, that's pending approval by affiliated auto manufacturers, will include all five DeLon dealerships and represent OAG's entry into the Oregon market. Founded in 1960, DeLon Auto Center currently employs 135 people in the Salem area at its BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen and Volvo dealerships.

Traffic on I-5 in Washington Reopens Today

Washington Department of Transportation crews are working around the clock to get highways open.

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) - Chehalis, Washington at the height of the flood 12-7-07 Road crews in Washington have partially reopened Interstate 5 at Centralia. They prepared a northbound lane and a southbound lane through the flood area for low-speed truck traffic Thursday, after receding flood waters revealed less damage to the Interstate than anticipated.

The lanes opened to commercial freight haulers shortly after 5:00 PM Thursday. After 8:00 PM, an 11-mile portion of southbound I-5 was reopened to all traffic. All vehicles may now enter the southbound lanes of I-5 at SR 6 in Chehalis and continue south with no further closures.

Kidnap and Meth Arrests Made in Linn County

Police are seeking more witnesses in the case.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Suspects in a recent meth and kidnapping arrest in Albany, Oregon 12-7-07 Detectives are investigating a kidnapping that occurred on December 4th in the Crawfordsville area.

The search warrant led to two arrests and the discovery of what Mueller describes as user amounts of methamphetamine. A large amount of stolen property was also recovered from the residence and returned to its rightful owner.

Highway 34 to Oregon Coast CLOSED

It is unclear when repairs can be made and this section of the highway reopened.

(WALDPORT, Ore. ) - road closed Highway 34 has been CLOSED in both directions about 16 miles east of Waldport following the failure of the highway's subgrade.

Storm-related damage forced ODOT to close the eastbound lane of the highway at milepoint 16.7 late Tuesday afternoon. Further degradation of the highway has made even single-lane passage controlled by flaggers unsafe.
