Pro-Life Mass, Rally Sunday in Salem

The Respect Life Mass will be an opportunity to pray for the building of a culture of life in Oregon and in the United States.

(SALEM) - Archbishop John Vlazny will celebrate the annual Respect Life Mass at noon Sunday, at St. Joseph Church, 721 Chemeketa St. NE, Salem.

Everyone is invited to attend.

The Mass precedes the annual Oregon Right to Life rally on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol, which begins at 2:30 PM.

Oregon Red Cross in Urgent Need of Blood And Platelet Donors

(PORTLAND) - The fallout continues from the recent winter storm that made it’s way over Oregon this past week.

The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter expects the recent storms and lack of blood donations to result in further shortages in the blood supply.

Currently, five blood types are at a half-day supply or lower, including types O-, O+, A-, B- and AB-.

Black Hawk Helicopter Crash in Iraq Kills 13 Americans

Saturday's crash was the fourth deadliest since the start of the Iraqi war.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq ) - A US forces Black Hawk helicopter went down northeast of Baghdad Saturday afternoon.

Emergency Coalition Forces responded and secured the scene.

Thirteen passengers and crewmembers were aboard the aircraft and all were killed.

Two Young Girls Seriously Injured in Saturday Morning Crash

Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

(CANBY) - Two children were injured Saturday morning after the van they were riding in lost control on an icy stretch of Highway 170 about two miles south of Canby and collided with a pickup.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 8:55 AM, a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by 39-year-old Gina Lannin, from Canby, was eastbound on Highway 170 near milepost 12.

While negotiating a slight left-hand curve, Lannin lost control on an icy section of two lane highway and slid broadside into the westbound lane.

The passenger side of the van was struck by the front of a westbound 2004 Ford F350 pickup towing a horse trailer.

Woodburn Man Killed Along I-5 Friday Night

Alcohol is being investigated as a possible contributing factor on the victim's part.

(AURORA) - A Woodburn-area man died Friday evening after he and his car were struck by another vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 about one mile south of the Donald/Aurora interchange.

Initial investigation indicates the victim was standing next to the driver's door of his stopped car in the inside northbound lane at the time of the crash.

For an unknown reason the Nissan did not have any lights on as it was stopped in the inside northbound lane.

Bend Man Seriously Injured When Large Rock Crashes Through Windshield

Investigators believe the rock fell from an area embankment.

(SWEET HOME) - A Bend-area resident enroute to Corvallis was seriously injured Friday afternoon when a large rock crashed through the windshield of his pickup and struck his right side.

The incident occurred on Highway 20 about 27 miles east of Sweet Home.

OSP says at approximately 4:49 PM, a Toyota pickup driven by 23-year-old Sean C. Passage, from Bend, was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 55 when a large rock crashed through the front windshield and struck Passage in the right side and arm.

Bill to Make English Oregon`s Official Language Generating Overwhelming Support

(SALEM) - Oregon State Representative Donna Nelson (R-McMinnville) has received overwhelming support for HB 2459, the bill to make English Oregon’s official language.

If passed, state, city, and county governments would not be required to provide services or information, such as voter pamphlets, in any other language other than English.

Cause of December`s Fatal Fire in Polk County Shows Importance of Electrical Safety

An extension cord under a rug has been identified as the cause of a fatal fire in Polk County this past December.

(DALLAS) - The death serves as grim reminder of the danger of placing electrical cords under or near any combustible material.

"In addition to being placed under a rug, the cord was damaged by a chair placed on top of the rug," states investigating Deputy State Fire Marshal Dan Jones. "This tragedy is compounded because there were no smoke alarms in the home."

Jones reminds Oregonians extension cords are not intended for permanent use and they should never be located in areas where they may be damaged by foot traffic, furniture, pets or other items.

Keizer Fire District Sets Record For Calls For Service in 2006

Only one fatality from a house fire was recorded in 2006.

(KEIZER) - The Keizer Fire District responded to a record number of calls for emergency services in 2006.

The District responded to a total of 3,404 calls for service during the year, which compares to 3,320 calls for service in 2005.

The increase marks the ninth straight year, and the 12th year in the last 14 years, the District has seen an increase in emergency responses.

State Board Increases Oregon`s High School Graduation Requirements

Some provisions of the new diploma will require new Administrative Rules or action by the Oregon legislature.

(SALEM) - The State Board of Education voted to increase Oregon’s graduation requirements in order to better prepare students for college and the workforce.
