Sprague High Scene of Second Arson Fire

(SALEM) - Sprague High School was the scene of second arson fire within the last week. They`re hoping somebody in the community may come forth with information that could lead them to those who are responsible for setting the fires.

Family Releases Recording of PFC Tommy Tucker`s Last Call Home (Audio)

(MADRAS) - Private 1st Class Thomas Tucker joined the U.S. Army stating that he wanted to do something positive and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky as a member of B Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.

In a recent telephone message that remains on their telephone answering machine, Thomas sent the following greeting. "Be proud of me Mom, I'm defending my country. Tell sis and my nephews hello for me, I'm OK, I'm on my way."

Thomas Tucker's family released that call, it is included in this story.

Man Enters Burning RV to Rescue Dog

Firegfighters say the animal was uninjured, but the decision to reenter a burning vehicle could have cost the man his life.

(SALEM) - Salem Firefighters say a man is lucky after reentering a burning motor home to save a family pet. Crews responded to the 9:22 AM fire Monday at Salem Campground, 3700 Hagers Grove Rd SE that sent the 44-yr old man to the hospital.

Salem Fire Captain Reed Godfrey says firefighters helped the owner and his dog out of the engulfed RV. The man reportedly went inside the motor home to retrieve the family dog, which was not injured in the fire.

Statement From the Family of PFC Thomas L. Tucker

(MADRAS) - Our son, Thomas Tucker was born in Prineville, Oregon. We moved to Madras where he and his sister were raised. He graduated Madras High School. For several years he worked in construction as a framer. Thomas has a great love of music and played the piano.

Group Claims Responsibility For Kidnapping Two Americans

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - An umbrella group linked to al-Qaida in Iraq claimed Monday that it had kidnapped two American soldiers reported missing south of Baghdad, where 8,000 Iraqi and U.S. troops were conducting a massive search.

The group, called the Mujahedeen Shura Council, also claimed it had kidnapped four Russian diplomats and killed a fifth in Baghdad on June 3rd.

The message, which could not be authenticated, appeared on an Islamic Web site known for publishing messages from insurgent groups in Iraq. U.S. officials have said they were trying to confirm whether the two soldiers, who disappeared Friday evening following an insurgent attack that also killed a U.S. soldier, were kidnapped.

(SALEM) - Two public safety officers escaped serious injuries this weekend after their patrol cars were hit by suspected drunk drivers.

Keizer police Stg. David LeDay`s patrol car was rammed by 19-year-old Eric Gilmore`s 1985 GMC Jimmy early Saturday morning at Arcade Court and Larchwood Street NE.

The incident occurred when LeDay attempted stop Gilmore on suspected drunken driving. Gilmore fled Leday`s pursuit, and turned down a cul-de-sac.

Center Street Bridge Construction Gets Underway (VIDEO)

(SALEM) - Salem residents are going to be off Center this summer. The bridge on Center Street NE that passes over the sparkling waters of Mill Creek is up for replacement, and that means cars will have to drive around Center between 14th Street and 17th Street NE until October 16th.

Residents like Adam Bradford who works downtown but parks east of Center Street, says he is glad that pedestrians will be accommodated by a temporary pedestrian bridge, as crews tear down the old one, built in 1914, to replace it with a modern bridge that will allow more elbow room for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. `I think it`s great. You can see how it bottlenecks right there, I think the investment into Salem is exciting.`

The main thing those working on the project hope for as the summer passes is consideration from drivers who have a longer drive than usual on their hands. As Kevin Montgomery reports, the Center Street Bridge widening project will increase traffic, but in the end represent a significant improvement to the community.

Champ Car Zooms Through Portland, Allmendinger Ends Bourdais` Win Streak (AUDIO)

Oregon soldiers officially started the 2006 Champ Car Race on Sunday when they gave the command via telecast "Drivers, Start Your Engines.

(PORTLAND) - Sebastein Bourdais` had a season-opening string of four straight victories.

However, A.J. Allmendinger ended Bourdais streak Sunday by winning the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland.

For the winner, it was a week of ups and downs.

On Tuesday, he was fired by Dale Coyne Racing and hired by Forsythe Championship Racing. He got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, and on Sunday streaked away from the competition beating runner-up Justin Wilson be nearly six seconds.
