ODOT Offers Drivers Tips on Keeping Safe While Passing Large Commercial Trucks (AUDIO)

(SALEM) - Motorists share Oregon roadways with thousands of large commercial trucks everyday.

Approximately 40 percent of all crashes involving cars and trucks are caused by cars.

From 2002-2005, improper passing by passenger car drivers caused more than 700 crashes resulting in 207 injuries and 30 deaths.

There`s Plenty of Water For Oregon Agriculture This Summer (AUDIO)

(SALEM) - There should be plenty of water this summer for farmers and ranchers in Oregon dependent on irrigation.

A good healthy snowpack over the winter is now paying off for farmers, ranchers, and everyone else who depends on an ample water supply in the summer, according to Jim Johnson of the Oregon Department of Agriculture:

Johnson: "All over the state, water supplies are above normal. Reservoir levels are looking excellent in terms of storage. It's all pointing towards a very good banner year in terms of irrigation for the State of Oregon."

FBI Asking For The Public`s Help in Identifying Serial Robber

(ALBANY) - The FBI is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a suspected serial bank robber.

The man is wanted in connection with three bank robberies in Albany, Eugene and Springfield.

The first robbery happened on April 21st at 11:22 AM.

A man walked into the Northwest Community Credit Union located at 707 Waverly SE in Albany, demanded cash and received cash.

He was seen leaving the credit union on foot with an undisclosed amount.

Bush Urges Compromise on Immigration Bill

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - President Bush pressed Congress on Thursday to pass a comprehensive immigration bill that provides a chance at citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants already in the country.

"The difficulty of this task is no excuse for avoiding it," he said.

Bush's speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was intended to build momentum for Senate and House negotiators to resolve passionate disputes and produce a compromise. The two houses passed sharply different versions of the legislation.

The House bill generally is limited to border enforcement and cracking down on employers who hire illegal immigrants. The Senate version would tighten border security, offer a guest worker program to bring in new foreign workers and provide a chance at citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants already in the country.

8-Year Old to Become School Principal

For a day at least...

(SALEM) - St. Vincent de Paul School Principal, Ruth Whitnah, has named Mickey Walker, age 8, as "Principal", for Thursday, June 1st. The announcement was part of a school fundraiser that Mickey won.

Mickey will arrive to school, around 8:00 AM in a white 10-passenger stretch limousine, provided as part of the special day, by Advantage Limousine in Keizer. Mickey will immediately take the reigns by reporting to the Principal's desk to make the morning announcements.

It is anticipated that Mickey will implement his own school rules for the day, to include: Free Dress Passes for all students -- no school uniforms allowed! Recess is expected to be lengthened, PE classes will be longer and math classes are likely to be banned for the day!

Exotic Dancers Kick Up Their Heels in Salem, Oregon (VIDEO)

(SALEM) - Salem women are learning the art of exotic dance. The same moves seen in strip clubs, this style of exotic dance keeps clothes on, and is part of a growing movement across the nation.

Instructor Brandi Siefarth of Dancing Orchids in Salem, says the allure of being on stage is one part of it; exotic dancing also restores confidence in women.

`I love watching women come in really cautious and not knowing what to expect.` She says the contrast between what is anticipated, and what the class is actually about, is big. `We do some exercises, and by the end of the class they`re having a good time.`

But who could blame a woman for being hesitant? Student Mattie Brandt says the initial reaction...

Wireless Local Area Network Available at Salem Hospital

(SALEM) - Salem Hospital's new wireless network allows patients, visitors, and family members at the hospital to use their personal electronic device to access the Internet.

Salem Hospital's Sherryll Johnson Hoar says anyone with a portable computer or other handheld device, with a wireless card and an HTML-compatible browser, should be able to use the system.

Salem Hospital's wireless network is an early component of its upcoming electronic-medical-records system, portions of which are scheduled to be operational in December 2006. "We're happy to offer this wireless network to our guests at Salem Hospital," says Chief Information Officer Dennis Sato.

Guard Launches Blackhawk in Search for Missing Washington Man

(SALEM) - A UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem was launched in support of a search operation in Washington at approximately 2:00 PM Wednesday.

They crew flew to Skamania County, Washington to assist in the search for a 50-year old male who has been missing since May 26th. The search area is in the vicinity of Trout Lake.

The Oregon Army National Guard responded to a request from the Washington Emergency Operations Center.

The Blackhawk used in the operation was piloted by Major William Cueltas and Capt. Jerry Brennan.
