Will Lebanon Survive 2014? Should it?

The latest information this morning comes from Hezbollah security guys who guard our building (and my motorcycle—bless them for both favors!) and who have been visibly present throughout Dahiyeh for the past six months, ever since the spate of neighborhood bombings began.

The health ministry released a statement just a short while ago reporting that an additional 67 people were treated in hospitals for wounds and released, while 10 people remained hospitalized with more severe injuries.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Jan. 9 at American Legion Post 16 on 406 SE Oak Street in Roseburg.

650 Inmates Released from Bagram Prison

While nearly one year ago the Afghan government took over Bagram prison and there were 3,000 inmates, including 50 foreign inmates.

(KABUL Tolo News) - Bagram Air Base Afghanistan The Investigating Fates of Prisoners Committee (IFPC) on Tuesday revealed that 650 inmates previously housed in Bagram Prison have been released. The IFPC said that in total over 760 inmates at Bagram are being vetted for possible early release.

The committee said that most of the inmates were accused of involvement with the Taliban and the Hezb-e-Islami group led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, both anti-government groups, but there was insufficient evidence to hold them on those charges.

NATO Forces Casualties in Afghanistan Lowest in Six years

At least 1,788 US troops have been killed and some 19,541 in various incidents since the start of the U.S. invasion in 2001 through Dec. 30 in Afghanistan, according the US Defense Department.

(KABUL) - U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan The US-led coalition security forces suffered the lowest number of casualties in Afghanistan in 2013, as compared to the past six years, the Associated Press reported.

However, Afghan national security forces casualties have significantly during the year, as Afghan forces took security responsibilities and combat lead across the country.

Tribunal Delivers Sri Lanka`s Guilty Verdict

Britain and the US were found to be guilty of complicity in the crime of genocide over providing weapons, and by knowingly aiding or abetting a perpetrator of a genocide in the planning or enabling of such acts.

(BREMEN, Aust. Canberra Times) - Tamil refugees stranded in North Pagai, Indonesia. A tribunal of 11 eminent judges has unanimously found the Sri Lankan government guilty of the crime of genocide against ethnic Tamil people. Sitting in Bremen, from December 7 to 10, the Second Session of the Peoples' Tribunal on Sri Lanka found that the crime of genocide has been and is being committed against the Eelam Tamils as a national group.

I was invited to appear before the tribunal as an expert witness on the treatment of Tamils from Sri Lanka by the Australian government.

Israeli Aggression Leaves Little Hope for Peace

In this year 2014, supporters of Israel in the U.S., both secular and religious, should look long and hard at this strategy of delay and defeat employed by the Israeli Prime Minister.

(CHICAGO) - Israeli forces fire at demonstrators in West Bank. The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. That conflict began on July 28, 1914. It did not end until November 11, 1918.

Keep those dates in mind because by July 28, 2014, it is possible that we will witness the start of another conflict, driven by the same stupidity, greed and lust for power that produced the First World War.
