Water and food continue to be among the top priorities as the risk of malnutrition and infectious disease is given with the disruption in water, sanitation and hygiene services (WASH).

(MANILLA) - Damage from hurricane in Phillippines Typhoon Haiyan (locally named Yolanda) made landfall over the Philippines on November 8, 2013. The typhoon made six landfalls in five provinces – Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Iloilo and Palawan – causing storm surges and flooding affecting an estimated 36 provinces in all.

On November 12, the President of the Philippines declared a state of calamity. The death toll to date is reported at 2,500.

(COLOMBO BBC) - Sri Lanka President Majinda Rajapakse The heads of government of the 53 nations of the Commonwealth come together every two years for a summit. This time, several have decided to stay away, to boycott the gathering in Sri Lanka.

The prime ministers of Canada, India and Mauritius say they cannot take part. Their basic complaint: Sri Lanka's President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, should not have been allowed to host the Commonwealth and then take over for the next two years as chairperson of an organisation committed to values of democracy and human rights which he is accused of flouting.

So what was I supposed to make of the press release below, received yesterday evening and purporting to be from the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department and relayed by the embassy in London?

I could find nothing about this bombshell on the PLO or Palestine Mission UK websites.

OIC in New Push to Set Up an Office in Myanmar

"OIC wants to open an office in Myanmar," MP Khin Saw Wai told RFA's Myanmar Service amid continuing protests against the OIC visit by Buddhist groups.

(RANGOON RFA) - Buddhist monks protest the visit by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation delegation in Yangon, Nov. 12, 2013. RFA The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is pressing predominantly-Buddhist Myanmar to allow it to set up an office in the country to channel humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya Muslim minority who have borne the brunt of sectarian violence, lawmakers said.

A previous OIC request to set up a permanent office had been rejected by the Myanmar government following protests by Buddhists concerned over any international aid to the Rohingyas, most of whom are considered illegal immigrants.
