NAACP Supports HR 1523, Respect State Marijuana Laws Act

Marijuana Prohibition Discriminatorily Enforced, Wasteful, Responsible for Overincarceration, Claims Influential Organization

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Salem-News.com Laws prohibiting marijuana have been unjustly enforced and are largely responsible for the current incarceration crisis, says the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, one of the nation’s foremost organizations concerned with ending race-based discrimination.

The group has officially endorsed HR 1523, a bill introduced by California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher calling for the Controlled Substances Act to be amended so as not to apply to those in compliance with state marijuana laws.

Stifling Activism, the Bureaucratic Way

Those who have power can lord over those without, curtailing their efforts to envision and begin creating a better world.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Stifling freedom I am writing and raging. Raging because I am tired, oh so tired, of my activism being repressed or limited by bureaucratic minutia and ridiculous protocol.

I am even more upset at the ways bureaucracy stifles my students who, because they are informed and outraged, want to act and are told they can’t, or can only under certain conditions…blah, blah, blah.

BURMA: Police Harassment Northern Arakan State

The villagers were engulfed with fear of arbitrary arrest that police may start at anytime. Sometimes, the villagers have to pay extortion fees of 500kyats while going from the village to Maung Daw town.

(MAUNG DAW Burma Times) - Burma map Maung Hla Myint, A student of the village, U Shin kya (Bura-shida para¬) said, a group of police came to the village , U Shin Kya (Bura-shida para) under the Maung Daw township. The group said that they got information of a group of armed robbers who came to the said village.

So the group of police came to prevent the armed robbers from committing any kind of robberies inside the village and to avoid the any bad occurrence.

Irina Bokova Regrets Loss of US Voting Rights

Universality is critical to UNESCO’s mission, to achieving the ambitions that have guided the Organization since 1945.

(GENEVA) - Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General Legislation from the 1990s has prevented the United States of America from paying dues to UNESCO since the Organization voted to admit Palestine in 2011.

Member States that do not pay dues for two years lose their right to vote in UNESCO’s General Conference. That rule came into effect for the United States today.
