Ethnic Cleansing in Myanmar

(MRAUK-U, SITTWE and THANDWE) - Rakhine woman in Burma Myamnar's government has reported that 82 people have died in the past week’s ethnic violence in the western state of Rakhine, and 2,800 houses been razed by fire. Both figures are almost certainly underestimates.

Human Rights Watch has used satellite imagery to show the destruction by fire on October 24th of a Muslim quarter on the island of Kyauk Pyu.

Salehi Calls for Respecting Muslims` Rights in Myanmar

The majority of Myanmar population are followers of Buddhism and the government of that country is not willing to recognize the Muslim Rohingya community.

(TEHRAN Trend) - Ali Akbar Salehi Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a telephone conversation with his Myanmar counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin called on the Myanmar government to respect the basis rights of that country's Muslim minority, IRNA reported.

He called for an end to the ongoing ethnic conflicts in that country as well as restoration of the rights of Muslims living in that country.
