(SALEM) - Salem-News.com hit the airwaves this morning with Kevin Hays' first radio news report on Newsradio 1190 KEX. Hays is the News Director for Salem-News.com.

Salem-News.com announced last week that the two news organizations would begin sharing news content. The new move will allow greater exposure for Salem-News.com and add to the comprehensive radio news coverage that Oregon expects from 1190 KEX.

Executive Editor Tim King says it is a substantial improvement for area residents to have more Salem news on the air, "And like always, Kevin is looking at the greater Salem area, not forgetting the needs of people in smaller outlying communities."

Newsradio 1190 KEX is a Portland based organization that has always put major effort forth when it comes to keeping a presence in the capitol city region, King said.

Radio news reports originating from Salem-News.com`s Kevin Hays will be heard each day at various times on KEX and Web stories from Salem-News.com will be posted on the 1190 KEX Web site.

While both Hays and King have strong backgrounds in large market television news, they each have years in radio news to their credit. King says this specific experience is valuable, "Radio is that medium where you only get one-shot, you have no pictures to back up your words and people can't simply reread it like they can with the Web or a printed story."

Since initially going on the air, Salem-News.com stories from Hays and King have appeared in a number of publications, as well as being blogged and republished on many Web sites around the world. Salem-News.com stories are frequently contributed to The Oregon Associated Press for distribution to other news agencies. The group`s staff says they are extremely proud to bring Salem and the mid-valley a strong news alternative.

Watch for the debut of the new Salem-News.com sports section this week and the announcement of the addition of Sports Director Tina Miller to the staff of Salem-News.com.
