False Amber Alert Cell Phone Text Messages in Oregon

A cell phone Amber Alert about two little girls in Albany, Oregon was false.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - In following up to today's information about false Amber Alert cell phone text messages being received in several states, including Oregon, the Oregon State Police has been in contact with the National Amber Alert Program.

There is no information to indicate this message originated from the Oregon Amber Alert Program, but it is vital that people understand how wireless Amber Alerts operate and the proper procedures to follow to maintain its success.

The national Wireless Amber Alerts Initiative is a voluntary partnership between the wireless industry, the United States Department of Justice, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, to distribute Amber Alerts to wireless subscribers who opt in to receive the messages and are able to receive text messages on their wireless devices.

Making sure that members of the public have accurate information from a legitimate source is essential to gaining their confidence in the entire Amber Alert program.

I received this text message it is a positive thing that there is not an issue, but maybe to find a resolution to these false texts is alarming and very worry some. I hope this is taken care of and can be tracked some how to resolve this isse.
