(SALEM) - The fight against AIDS and HIV is an ongoing battle and an agency in Salem that assists AIDS and HIV patients and their families, the Lifeline AIDS Project, wants to remind the community that funds are tight and the need for their services is growing. Board member Don Matthews says the group is trying harder than ever tomake a difference.

"Our board members and volunteers have been hard at work on LifeLine's office and thrift store. We've got a lot of great things that need a good place to call home. So please stop by and see what you might find."

Matthews says he hopes local residents who see the need take advantage of the great items in their store, "bring your cash or checkbook and help us assist those living with HIV and AIDS in Marion, Polk, and Linn Counties. We are open 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday."

"As a result of our office and thrift store reorganization, we now have more space to properly stock our food bank for our clients in need." Matthews asks people to please consider donating a good sized bag of non-perishable food and household items using the following for a guide:

  • canned soups, vegetables, chili and stew
  • cereal, oatmeal, rice, beans, and pasta
  • household cleaning supplies like bleach, laundry soap, and dishwashing soap
  • dog food and cat food (bagged or canned!)
LifeLine provides assistance to men, women, and children living in Marion, Polk and Linn Counties infected or affected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Client services are available by contacting the local county health department's HIV/AIDS case manager. Remember that LifeLine is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community based organization (CBO) registered in the State of Oregon, and funded through grants, fundraisers, private donations, and our thrift store sales. All cash and non-cash donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by IRS Tax Regulations and Oregon State Law.

Food, new and good used clothing, blankets, and household items may also be donated, Matthews said. "And is greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that we currently don't have the space for large furniture items." The store's address is 2350 State Street, 1/2 block west and across the street from Sybil's Omelets.
