Salem Police Pursue Driver, Before Vehicle Crashes Into Home

Salem-News.com

(SALEM AP) - A police pursuit in Salem ends with the vehicle crashing into a manufactured home -- right under the bedroom of a child.

No one was injured.

It all started when Salem police Corporal Mike Basket tried to pull over a vehicle for making an illegal turn.

That's allegedly when 25-year-old Jason Gonzalez took off and led Basket on a six-block chase down Center Street in Salem.

And then Salem Police Sergeant Vince Wan says Gonzalez fled the vehicle, fought with Basket and allegedly tried to grab his Taser.

Basket called for backup and Gonzalez was taken into custody. He now faces a laundry list of charges. Police say Gonzales has outstanding warrants in Marion County.

Basket was cut and bruised, but otherwise O-K. Gonzalez is in the Marion County jail.
